Hey kids,

I just finished rigging my new character "Walter" and started to do some preliminary tests with him. I have 3 clips for you to check out. One is a walkcycle from the side, and from the front. And the third is a small dialogue that I am working on. Please bear in mind that these are still WIP and I would apreciate any critiques you may have for me to improve these.

Much thanks, Kristoff

ok i will post on this. it seems that his motion is alittle too blocky. also you might want to give us more than one loop on the walkcycle so that we can see how it flows better. you also are getting gimbal lock on the knees in that walkcycle im assuming since u used ik. you can fix that by using hand keys and switching to fk i like the little part with dialogue keep working on the movement of the character and refining it, right now it looks alittle forced rather than natural... keep up your work and it'll just get better and better

keep going

About the dialog, it look pretty ok, but the gesture that comes with "my favourite cartoon" seems a little late. Usually gestures come before someone says something. Here he touches his chest when he says favourite and after my. You might want to take a look at that.

i like the walkcycle, the last frame is the same as the second to last, so it doesn't loop perfectly which makes it a bit harder to crit (i did the same on my last wip!)

crits wise all i can think to say is that the two hands' motions look a bit different from the front view in that the right (his left) hand has a sharp snap (x-axis motion) around the 22nd frame which looks a bit odd, as the other hand has a nice flowing motion on the same part (frames 6-10).

also the knee's little pop forward as the foot hits the floor looks a bit odd at full speed (frames 20-21 for his right leg) and i don't think this happens in any real walks (could be wrong tho!)

i don't see any gimbal lock mind...

hope this is useful, you're welcome to crit my cycle too! (please!)

Hey everyone!

Thank you so much for all your comments so far. I have updated the Walcycles so that they loop for a couple of seconds instead of just one go. Take a look again and tell me what you see.

Also, I toned down the dialogue a bit to make it feel more natural. Let me know if it is an improvement or not.
