This started out as a GSO entry (thread link (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=183001)) that I couldnt finish in time due to work, and have decided to finish it in my spare time (it wont be grand space opera anymore, since I'm really no good at the whole "epic" stuff lol)
Here's the pic that I'll continue work on:
I will post updates as I go along (hopefully once every two days) :) I'm not expecting any comments at this early scratchy stage, but feel free to post any comments/crits at anytime. I especially welcome criticism and suggestions. This will eventually go into the finished 2d gallery when I'm done, and linked back here.. and dont bother cut-pasting my crazy nickname to address me, just call me Michele :D

crazy3dman: thanks for dropping by!
doodling the environment and trying to get the feel of the place she lives in my head :D
i'm using only Photoshop7 for this piece .. if i fail to sleep an hour after this post, i'll work on it some more :wip:

quick update since i'm still not sleepy yet lol

"she who can't sleep" is right :)
Nice update I like the color change. What size are you working? Is this the underpainting for the finished piece or is this a study?
03-01-2005, 06:10 AM
it's more of a study, and sort-of underpainting .. trying to get the right mood and feel before i get too caught up in the details and cant see the forest for the trees lol
currently the psd dimensions are: 1500x2100px .. i might probably take months to finish this, since all of my 2d works are mostly sketches (I do concept design for 2d work) and i never finished a serious 2d painted scene before :D

Well, good luck with it. I'll be watching. :)

this demanded to be drawn before i could sleep.. and i just realized i missed adding the chrome blue in *whacks head*
mmm mechanoid midwife:
Planning to make these machines semi organic (slimey!), and for anyone wondering what fcked-up scene i'm trying to create here, it's supposed to be a breeding chamber :D

another insomnia-induced doodle:
..got to fight back this crazy urge to start modelling her in 3d..
Hi Michele, it's good to see you continue this work.
About your last creature design, I don't know about the 'mouth', it looks like she's grinning :)
Also her jawline is a bit too square, I would make it more feminine and round like the rest of her head. These are just my thoughts, you can do what you please, I'll still enjoy it ;)
How about the story you came up with, will it still apply to the pic?
03-04-2005, 01:24 PM
Art2: Thanks for dropping by! :) Yep the mouth is meant to have an illusion of a skull-grin, I'm glad it shows as such. The jawline is sorta triangular with the chin pointy and jawline jutting. I'm no good at drawing mechanical shapes outside orthographic views in 2d, thus this is a personal challenge for me lol And yep, the story still applies, I'm just taking a different angle in it.
Currently it's still in the "studying shapes and colors" stage. I'll be updating random sketches now and then :)
sort-of-update without a new post:
Going to need to slow down work on this for awhile. I'm finding less time between 3d projects now, and it's either miss daily sketches or update this wip, and i'm just too addicted to the daily sketches, so.. :D
I still plan to update, i just hate leaving anything unfinished.
