View Full Version : Melbourne C4D Modeller?
BKK-OZ 02-27-2005, 09:36 PM No, not Florida, Australia.
Hiya,
I am looking for someone (or sometwo!) to work on creating a number models in C4D for an art project of mine.
The person will need to have experience in modelling in Cinema 4D and will be preferably based in Melbourne.
The person I am looking for will be inventive, creative, and willing to experiment – but they also need to be able to take instruction and feedback (it is my vision I am trying to realise after all!).
Ideally the person will also be able to rig models for animation. Rates will be negotiated with the right person on a model-by-model basis, with fair, but not excessive, compensation for models of the right standard.
This is not your typical sweat-shop, super super urgent job, I want to find someone (or sometwo!) to work with over a series of projects.
I can provide facilities (in my studio).
Interested people should PM me.

I know I shouldn't do this, but I just wanted my post to stay on the front page for a leeeeetle while longer.
Shame on me.

Any particular reason they need to be based in Australia? This is the internet age after all. ;)

well now, that is a very good question. I guess I see it this way...
The project I need help on is one of my 'arty' endeavours (I don't think it'll pay the bills, but it helps keep me sane -sorta). I want to work with somebody iteratively, I want to 'dialogue' with them, rather than just issue instructions or 'commission' work to support my project.
I guess there are ways that this could be done reasonably cheaply over the wires, e.g. VoIP, electronic conferencing with white-boards for sketching, etc. but I guess I just had this notion in my head that I would like to sit down over a coffee or two and hash out some ideas, you know, sketch on a napkin, point out something and say "...like that!" in the way only being person to person can be.
I guess I want collaboration, and fairly deep collaboration @ that - the person would get credits, etc. and I dunno if that would work as well remotely.
I could be talked into it tho, I think the most important thing is to find the right person, regardless of where they live...

quite frankly, I don't know if you will find someone who is interseted. You are already defining the projects as your own, meaning -as I read it- that the person would work FOR you, and not on an equal creative basis. And nevertheless you don't seem to be offering a real remunueration ( again from my reading). AND you don't offer an insight as to what projects this might be for . Not much for incentives.
If I had time to spend working on projects on the side, I would invest the time on my own designs, or else I would need something to convince me that working with someone/for someone would be worthwile. Or else a real offer (ie remunerated)

well, yeah it is mine, I am funding it, I have done/will do most of the work and it is something that comes from my own well-spring of creativity. I don't really feel the need to resile from that, I feel perfectly ok with owning it. I guess its the difference between joining a band of equals (which I have done and will continue to do) and getting a backing group together to help me realise a very personal vision. Being in a backing group isn't everybody's cup of tea, but then again, neither is joining a band. Like lots of other people, I like to do both. Just because someone is in a support role doesn't diminish their contribution or mean that they are not collaborating. There are many ways to skin the proverbial.
The bit about "real remuneration" is wrong tho - sorry if I gave anyone that idea. I believe I said "fair but not excessive". The fair bit is just that, I don't want to rip anybody off, I will pay for what I get and work will only start once both/all parties are happy with the arrangment. Its not like I am going to steal somebody's model or anything, I am not holding a gun to their head, if they want to work with me, great, if not, that's OK too.
The "excessive" bit is for my own protection - I am not a person of unlimited means, nor am I fool, so I just wanted to make it clear that this isn't the kind of thing someone could retire on. I also don't see what I am looking for as "working on the side" or not being a "real offer" - its a real gig, I dunno where you got that idea from, sorry if it came from me.
BTW, I have had a fair bit of interest, but in creative endeavours it is always worth taking one's time to make sure that the fit is right for everyone.

Well said BKK, I see no fault in your line of thinking. In all creative endeavors, there is a director and a crew. Just sometimes, they are one in the same.

There are a couple of Australian guys over at C4DCafe (http://www.c4dcafe.com/portal/default.asp) that may fit the bill. At least one of them is from Melbourne as I recall. Might pay to post your request over there as well.

Thanx for that tip re: the Cafe.
I've gotta few contacts now, but it just so happens I got swamped with work for my 'day job' in the last week, so I've got to get that stuff nailed b4 I can move onto my own work.
Will there ever be enuf hours in the day?
I am thinking of asking for an extra day to be inserted in the week just so I have some time to scratch myself.....
