View Full Version : mental ray physical light????
luma clark 02-27-2005, 10:19 PM hi. i'm new to maya. i used to use max. now, i've used the physical light shader in max before without problems. but when i apply the shader to my maya lights, i get a completely black image. i know this is because the light is not traveling the distance to the surface. but my question is how do i get it to work? my scene is relatively small. about the size of a room. and it's black even if i blast the light multiplier up to like 50000??????? when i move the light above the object, i get a very dim rendering. it is an area light that is about 10% the size of the scene. why is this happening and how can i resolve it?
please help.
thanks,
luma

Are you changing the intensity on the actual Maya light or on the physical light shader node? You need to do it on the physical light shader itself.
It should work fine, I use them occasionally.

oh. i didn't know that. it isn't that way in max. i was blasting the light's intensity, not the shader. i'll try it.
thanks,

yes, modify the physical light V to set the intensity and the H,S for the color. By default this is 1000, i think.
