Hi

I'm starting to make enviromental stuff, but i dont know how to make efficient procedual textures, and models, my questions are.

For now i'm trying to make a city:

1: the streets and roads, how to model/unvrap them to make use of the texture map place as much efficient as possible? and how to make the texture, so the size will be low, and the IN GAME quality will be somewhat good.

2: buildings, do i have to model them as BOXes to not use large amounths of polys? and how to Unvrap/make textures for them?

Please help me with that, the start is very hard for enviroment modelers, all i did up untill now are dingle objects, some tips will be welcomed

BIG thanks for any replies, i hope i'll get some tips for enviromental modeling/texturing.

There are a lot of people in this forum that are far more experienced and talented than I am so I can only offer a few tips. First of plan your environment. Your should have a good mental picture of the level. Concept sketches and refes are better. Second think of tiling textures, with smart UV and usage you could get good quality and effiecient texture memory usage. And Third, you could probably spend more polys than your think. More and more engines handle polys better than before. Find out what your limits are so you don't over do it.

There are a few examples of some in game building models I textured on my site but you should look around more. Like I said this forum is filled with great talents. Try the gaming art area.

Good Luck. Hope this helps.
