View Full Version : When I render I can't undo!!???
Sorry things are not working the way you want but why not just use the modifier stack, (edit mesh in this case) so you can access the history at any time?
Maybe if you exit sub-object mode (I use a mouse stroke) before you hit your shortcut key it will work more predictably.

This never used to happen before, I've probably hit a wrong key or something but anyway.
Say I'm box modelling and I move a vertex, I can then undo and all is fine.
BUT, say I move a vertex and then press F9 and decide I don't like how that render looks, when I close down the render window and try and click undo nothing happens, it seems the undo history gets erased when I press F9 to render!!
This isn't right and I don't know why this has suddenly happened. Help me please!!
Thanks.
Yeh - Max dumps anything in it's memory before a render so it can have all the memory... Not always ur undoes - but in a heavy scene (or randomly - Discreet's speciality... :p) it will ditch these too.

So in that case would more memory in my computer solve this problem?
I doubt it... I have 512MB in my machine, and it stilll dumps a lot of stuff so that it has more memory free for the renderer. It will simply use more when rendering.
Although... more memory is always a good thing ;) :D

Okay thanks for the help people, much appreciated.
The annoying thing is that it's only just started happening but, whatever.
SO anyone know where I can get the cheapest memory in the UK??

i have a gig of ram in my machine and it always works vv cool it even worked fine with 512, there is a option to ajust the amount of undoos check it isnt alterd, ive never had this problem u speak of.
>customise>preferences>general tab(is were u find the setting)
there is a wierd little bug though it seems sometimes the shortcut cntrl+z doesnt work to undo inwhich case use the arrow icon on the main toolbar...wierd
i also live in the uk and there are loads of places to buy memory, it has actually just increased in price again b4 christmas u could pick up 512meg 133- for £40,,
check the internet,
dabs.com
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/
unfortunatly right now 512 will cost over £100
also your local computer fair. i found some mega cheap at one!
hope this helps

You don't have any scripts running rendertime callbacks by any chance do you? I know of a few that call gc(), which runs maxscript garbage collection and in so doing blanks out the undo buffer as well.
