hey all. im a maya user who came from a lightwave background. in LW, there was a surface setting called "diffuse sharpness". for those of you not familiar with this setting, it basicaly controlled how spread out the transition from light to dark was over a surface. for eg. by adjusting this setting, you could take a sphere from a smoothly blended white through grey to black, to a very harsh white beside black with next to no grey transition at all. (id post pics of this for eg., but im not in LW and cant replicate the effect in maya, thats the problem!)

im by no means a maya expert, so i have asked around the office and no one seems to know of how to achieve this in maya. people have suggested using the light info node, but i cant figure this out. perhaps this is a deadend all together.

regardless though, if anyone knows how to achieve this look on a surface, i would love to hear it. thanx guys!
