I've started working with displacement maps now... But i cant make it look right..

What im trying to do is a cube, with a material all over it, same size and tiling everywhere.. Adn then i want to add a displacement map to some of the polygons, so that a text is shown... The problems i have are:

1. The displaced polygons all extrude from the surface, instead of just the text. If i have a black text on white background i want the text to go into the cube and the background to stay where it was. What i get now is the text stays and the background gous out of the cube.. if i change the dispalcement amount to 0 i see nothing.. if i change it ti -100 the text stays and the background goes into the cube.

2. Cant make the UVW maps work.. Seems like if i change settings to one map, all maps change... I only want the diffuse and bump all over the cube, and the displacement over just a few polygons..

If someone could help me i would be very thankful. A tutorial would be good, although i already looked through a bunch of tutorials and they didnt help me much.

Hi,

1. Go to the bitmap map in the Material Editor, scroll down to Output and toggle Invert. White goes up, black stays down, you went in reverse. :)

2. You should only see the text go up now. But you can assign multiple UVW Map modifiers and assign different map channels to them.

Good luck,

displacement works a little differently to bump, you need to work from a surface level, so the background of you text needs to be a 50% grey, then you make white go up, and black go down.
