Micro Forté Canberra is looking for a Lead Artist to head the art team in the production of a new online game. This is an ideal first Lead Artist position, for a Senior Artist looking to step up or a team lead from a related industry. Experienced Lead Artists are also encouraged to apply.

Job Description

The Lead Artist will be responsible for managing the Micro Forté Canberra art department. This will involve liaising with the Producer, Lead Programmer, and Designer to develop a project schedule at the start of each project, and monitoring work within the art department to ensure the timely delivery of polished art assets according to project schedules. The Lead Artist will be responsible for all art department administrative duties, such as weekly status reports, staff appraisals, and training. The Lead Artist will need to be an experienced and multi talented artist, with a strong grasp on fundamental artistic principles as well as having extensive experience using 3D software in a game development environment.

The Lead Artist will be required to work with the Lead Programmer and Designer to ensure seamless integration of art and code assets as required by game design. They will be required to guide the art team in creating assets according to technical constraints (memory budget, polygon budgets, texture budgets etc).

Requirements

Strong organisational and leadership skills
Extensive experience with 3D Studio Max and Character Studio
Experience using 2D imaging software such as Photoshop or Painter
Strong communication skills
Experience working in an art team (commercial, student, or enthusiast)
Desirable

Team management experience
Level design and construction
2D life drawing skills
Animation skills
Passion for games
Salary: Between $50,000 and $75,000 plus superannuation, depending on skills & experience.

Employment Type : Full Time Permanent

Location: Watson, Canberra . Applicants must be willing to relocate.

Please ensure that all digital video files are saved as Bink executables or are bundled with the appropriate player. Portfolios should demonstrate technical excellence and will ideally contain work in a variety of different styles. Please provide polygon count information, and text detailing your contribution if the examples are from games or other group work.
