View Full Version : export motion vector data....
1armedScissor 02-23-2005, 04:54 PM Does anyone know how to export and read motion vector data from mental ray? I'm not interested in the lm_2DMV and reelsmart solution either. I'm hoping to generate an ascii file that contains all the motion vector information within a scene. Does anyone know how this is done?
Thanks in advance!

The shader encodes "projected" Motion Vectors into images which is what a post Motion Blur effect needs . If you want to have 3D object motion instead you will have to tap the actual Mental Ray FrameBuffer.
The lm shader uses this encoding:

And press on all the links :)
Hopefully the encoding is all explained...

thanks for the reply, but I'm wondering if it is possible to just simply write out the data, possibly embedded in a regular rendered image file. Instead of generating a new image file.
