it looks a little contrasty to me... maybe up the luminance slightly to get rid of those darker parts... you could try using chanlum to get a more translucent look... but i'm not sure how it would handle gi. as far as i can recall doesnt guiness createa a smooth flat brown head... closer to the consistency of single cream than whipping cream? maybe you need a coffee shader! lol. but i'd also shrink the bubbles a little bit, and maybe just get your pint and photograph it to see how the speculr highlights work... i think with the head it's more a case of a gentle bit of reflection with very low wide (read velvety) specular highlights... maybe a little fresnel on the luminance/colour might help do the trick...? other than the foam it's a great image :) post it when you've got it to your satisfaction.... oh i see that you already have! lol

I would have to agree that for Guiness this is the wrong sort of foam. Guiness always comes (for me anyway) with a flat, to the top of the glass, head...very smooth. Your head would however make a fantastic capuccino!!!!

Thanks
yes, guinness foam is a specific foam look more like cappucino that beer foam
i'll try chanlum to make it more smooth, thanks

And do you no the way to make the shader with realistic (or look like) bubles, like in the beer foam (not in guinness :) ?

and what else: i try to use chanlum and can understand how it work:annoyed:
can somebody send me simple project with chanlum used?
thanks a lot :)

ChanLum is normally used in the luminance channel of a shader. Mixed with other textures using Fusion it gives some great results. I'm no expert though!

Nice guinness..heh (is this for your website by any chance?)
how did you model the foam in the first place? just out of interest..as, well the fluffy look could surely be removed by a flatter surface in the first place...cos I don't really think the foam look is that far off...yup the bubbles could be smaller and using chanlum etc give you a better look...colour could be browner at the edges etc but these are tweaks at the end of the day?
Dunno maybe this is my lack of knowledge showing through. Just a thought.

(neilyb i suppose you're a STONES/TETLEY person coming from Leeds..heh heh...and you'd want it topping up as its not a full pint...sorry couldn't resist it...GRIN)

Sorry just a thought...you could if you were really clever...get the shamrock on top of the head as served in traditional irish pubs with draft...just a thought

Try fixing the colours first, the froth should be creamy off white. And the drink well dark browny as we all know. It hard to crit the foam till the coulour is ok, my advice.... go to the pub have a pint:thumbsup:
take a digital cammera and dont drink and drive:p

to flingster -> i modell the foam with lathe Nurbs, then deformed the top of foam with hand.
texture for beer and foam with SLA fusion in color and diffusion channels: 3d noise in the blend channel (with creamy color), and Gradient in mask and base channels.
special texture for the foam only: in the color, diffusion and bump channels use the image of natural foam and in luminanse chanel i use SLA fusion with fresnel and chanlum (dont render this variant , in old variant i dont use luminance channell)
uff..... :)
i try to use RealFlow for the foam and beer but it was more ..... hardly in megabites
For glass material i use setiings that the Peoples send in Glass thread, but it turned out not full transparent (sorry for my english)
that all :)
thanks, no i work at creamy guinness foam style
i can drink so mutch :)

Shame I have to go back to Leeds for a bit.

guinness -> thanks for the info. I agree you gotta get the colour right...as it will no doubt be half the battle...you gotta get the dip in surface tension at the edge of the glass as foam meets glass...kill the fluffy stuff.

neilyb->yup i gotta agree with you there matey...them purity laws keep it nice an clean...headache free...and belly ache free. As for the Pork side order...you trying to upset me...i've already gotta a thirst from all this beer talk...add food and...well it might be an early night on cgtalk....gotta go to the pub! heh heh. Maybe guinness can knock up some 3d equivalent! Dunno soda bread n chips?

still think shamrock head on top would be nice...when you go into traditional irish pubs and they have guiness on draft...the bar staff as the pour the last bit...head...they move the glass to create a shamrock pattern on top of the pint. cool....and it makes it taste better....BIG GRINS. Anyways enuff talk...the pub awaits.

Pub.....nah......only 2 days to the Beerfest.........millions of people all singing happily (partly due to the large glasses they serve filled with beer) and having a merry time...(until closing time when they come round with a road sweeper to clean up all the non-germans!)

this is a new render with chanlum
sorry but using chanlum was slow down render speed :( if i use more lights the one
this foam not realy good but it look better than old? I dont understand well all setiings of chanlum, but it is great

this is just an idea, but maybe use a particle system, with a tiny sphere, or just place lotsa tiny spheres... but then it would still come down to the texture

/me runs from the non german eating roadsweeper

In my opinion the material is already good, the problem is modeling. Your foam seems to have the solidity of a bath foam, not of a beer foam. Flatten it a bit because beer foam is more sensible to gravity than a bath foam! It seems so light now... :hmm: The rest of the rendering is very good but a bit dark

thanks a lot for help
yes, i think that the model of foam is not beer, but i will work with this
thanks
