View Full Version : FXWars! Volcano: Roux
figured I caught this one a bit late but what the heck. If its OK, I'd like to give it a bash and see what I can get done in the next couple of weeks.
Thinking of a freeway scene from local spot with volcano in the BG. Lots of rocks and things falling from the sky and destroying stuff.
Does the scene have to be in a major city or can it be a built up area on the edge of a city?

The outskirts of the city are OK for the location of the volcano, as long as the city gets hit....hard.
I think I have a handle on it but will have to capture some additional footage :-)
Will post some WIP soon. :bounce:
OK. Here are some of the inital efforts:
started with traffic footage going in both directions.
Removed traffic heading towards the city and the volcano.
test frame from rough matte painted scene. Still to do sky matte and smoke for this shot.
Please note that the footage was taken a while back and the cars were removed for no particular reason apart from trying to see if I could stop traffic. The city is the beginning of a model I was working on for a cancelled short film. Just thought I would make this clear from the start - I'm not Flash Gordon!
All of the effects and additional shots / composite work are still forming in my head and notepaper and will all be created purely for this challenge:twisted:
Some very cool looking competition I see here.
Hopefully I can make something of this.
Is there a time limit on the clip?

clear that you can make something of this, do you plan to make flowing lava?
L'explorateur : Thanks. I planned to do lots of things with this but as usual, I got flooded with web work just when I started getting into it. You have inspired me to continue with this one well after the project and make it a short feature.
I have not added sound or any other shots at this stage ( and I am not really happy with the volumetric clouds yet, as well as lots of other stuff)
The idea is a green screened reporter filming live. They make a run past the army to get a better shot of the city. Lots of excitement - bombs etc and then the lava and then running camera shake and then loss of pic.
Nothing new really.
Anyway here is an update ( probably the last for the comp anyway)
