Its a sort of dragonman.
Also here is a quick divx deformation test. His muscle bulges have not been rigged yet.

i like this one, the maping seems really ok by the way the veins are located, the anatomy is really cool.. i just have to say that the face seems too much angular for the rest of the body, but that may be just me

Thanks for giving me some input InnerVortex! I see your point about the head, I must admit i did rush the body design, probably should have added some boney parts like spines here and there. Maybe it can be improved with more texturing variations such as large scales etc. Texturing is always tedious.
A few more angles.

Well thats looking good. Weighting must have been a bitch, still seeing some tearing in the shoulders. I've got a big character like that in the works as well. I like the head and the whole thing overall. But the feet seem a little small, or the toes i guess. I'd suggest widening them out a bit. Besides that maybey some longer teeth, like a lions teeth set. Couple big ones in the front. But it does look ****ing good thus far. keep it up..

Thanks Spirit2029, for the kind words! I always have problems binding the shoulders and elbows of my bulkier characters. In this case I get some serious texture stretching in the back shoulder. I was going to use key driven morphs/blendshapes to correct this but I got distracted with other models I was working on. Your observation about the smallish feet are correct, in fact most of my characters are top heavy. For this guy I was thinking of giving him rhino like feet in the beginning.

Looks pretty good. The texturing I think is pretty successful, but be careful with the bump maps. In some places (like the top of the head, and when we see the close up of the hand) It is getting to be apparent that it is a map and not geometry. You could probably tone it down a little, or for the top of the head actually add some spikes and whatnot. Otherwise, good job.
