Howdy,
dunno what it is but I can't see *any* images on your site. Tried to look into buying a few issues but can't see images. :(
All other sites are fine. Checked to see if my firewall is blocking anything but nothing out of the ordinary.

Is anyone else not seeing any images at the 3d attack site? All I get is broken link icons throughout the site...
I have tried this on 3 different Macs, all OSX 10.3.8, I tried Safari, Firefox, and the old Internet Explorer, emptied my cache....
It has been this way for me for at leat a week, maybe longer.

Hi again folks,
Well you guys are not the first telling us about this but it has nothing to do with out site.
Try this and see if it works for you :) You can blame NORTON for this ;)
-Launch Internet Security
-Click Options>Internet Security
-Click the Web Content tab
-Click Ad Site, and add http://3dattack.net (http://3dattack.net/)
-with http://3dattack.net (http://3dattack.net/) selected in the left column, set al setings in the right column tabs to permit.
Hope this helps.

I'm not using Norton security (nor have I ever), so it's not that.
Beyond that, a user should not need to do anything to make your site work - so even if Norton is to blame, you are doing something with your site/code that is tripping some switch - do you have any clues? Is it only happening on Macs?
Tank_3D_Attack
02-21-2005, 10:08 PM
Sorry to hear that Mike but we really don't have any "special" code on our site. Just plain and simple code...nothing fancy. I am not sure what is causing this problem for you ...most people that complain about it use NORTON. Maybe somebody else here has a solution to this?
We will of course investigate this further and see what we can do!

the really wierd thing is that if I use the OS X Network utility, I can't find "www.3dattack.net" via ping, traceroute, or various whois lookups - maybe this is some kind of clue?
traceroute: unknown host http://www.3dattack.net/
ping: unknown host http://www.3dattack.net/
network solutions whois:
No match for "HTTP://WWW.3DATTACK.NET/".
internic whois:

Yo,
I use Zone Alarm but I disabled it when trying this:
I checked the properties of a few of the images on the site. So...
when I stick in:
http://www.3dattack.net/3dAttackReloaded.data/Components/TheShop02.jpg
as a url, I get:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /3dAttackReloaded.data/Components/TheShop02.jpg on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.3dattack.net (http://www.3dattack.net) Port 80
Are the permissions OK?

I too have problems seeing the site correctly, but then I have Nortons.
Followed your instructions but I couldn't find the tabs you talk about in Nortons but can in Internet Explorer but it tells me the site needs https not http to show its a secure site to be added to the list.
If I uncheck the secure site option and add your address I still get the site page full of boxes with the small red X in the box at the top corner. Going through some pages by blindly clicking I get pages on which I see the banner ads at the top and some text in the right hand side but the rest is the dreaded boxes with XXX's.
Any further instructions to solve this. Before you say take off Nortons it's not in Nortons this security tab, trusted sites etc appears, but in IE.
see your site is optomised for Firefox, could this have a bearing ?

Hey guys,
I don't have a solution to your problem, but I can tell you that its probably not mac related. I use a mac at home, and have been ever since joining the team, and I've never had mac related problems viewing the site, on safari or firefox. Also, my workplace is mac based, and I've had no problems viewing the site there either. I guess most likely the problem for most people is related to their firewall...

under the same domain
I can get:
http://www.3dattack.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3232&stc=1&thumb=1 which is a link to an image, albeit through a php script.
Could be wrong but still think that persmissions may not be set correctly on some directories.
I have this problem frequently with some of our web work.

I should clarify I'm on windows XP not a Mac and I have the firewall turned off in nortons because it caused problems with my netgear router which has its own one and I use to connect to the net with.
Can't remember another site were I have this problem, but would really like to solve it and look at your mag, download etc.

Hmm I'll just offer this little nugget. The permissions are correct on the server (644 or 755 where appropriate). It could very well be a typicaly glitch in routes to the server or, worse, from the server. It's been known to happen in the past and when you have TONS of bandwidth being used in both directions as we do right now with the release of the new issue "things" are bound to happen, ya know?
If it continues please keep us updated -- currently from what I have access to on the server everything looks a-ok.

This is the only site I have seen this on of the hundreds I visit, very strange.

Well, we are working on it but because of a big amount of possible causes it takes some time. In the meantime you might wanna try the workaround within your antivirus software, if applicable.

any luck on the broken image issue? Are you looking into it?
I have 4 Macs, all various versions of OSX, various browsers, no Norton products on any of them - can't see your images on any of them.
I'd love to be able to see your site, other than the anti-virus suggestion - do you know if anyone else has clues on what users can do to see images?

Hi again Mike,
We are still looking into it. There are several things to take care off. We checked our server which is fine. We checked our code which is fine too. We checked and did everything we could so far but it seems like only very few people are having trouble seeing our site. This could have various reasons so we are still on that. Did you try different browsers? Are you using a router?

- I have a DSL home network, utilizing a Cisco 675 router
- biege G3 - OSX 10.2
- iMac - OSX 10.3.4
- iBook G3 - OSX 10.3.8
- Dual Gig G4 - OSX 10.3.7
I am also running intego's Net Barrier, and have added you URL and IP# to my "trusted" lists, and made sure you were not on any of my "stop/block" lists.
I have tried Safari, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, and Netscape on all of the above computers - no images on any of them.
There was a time that I could see your site - the problem seemed to start a few months ago.
Hope that helps

Gosh, I am quite amazed to see some people's reaction here.
Come on guys, calm down.
We are not some kind of weasels trying to rip you off and send computer viruses to make your life miserable, so please, try to stay cool and explain a problem without getting mad.
The team is working on solving these problems, but there are so many reasons why it could not work that it's not necessarily solved right away, or solved at all.
Try to understand that.
I'm sorry you feel that way about us, but we are trying hard to please the community. Don't forget that we also are CGTalk members, and as such deserve a little bit of civilised talking.
No "these folks" when we are in front of you on this forum, no "spammers" when you should just disable an option, no "they're doing nothing" when we are, please.
We are not these kind of people, and are trying our best to share with the community and participate as nicely as we can.
Once again, I'm sorry some of you feel that way, and I'm sorry to tell you all this, but I just can't stand to see how some of you treat people.
Peace.
P.S: Thnaks Mike for the details, we are still looking.

good point fluffy...
i like the idea of a yearly subcription.
i to have problems seeing images on this site...i do use norton though and on winxp pro...from day one i've had problems so not sure how to cure it would love a simple solution and still provide me with a secure surfing enviroment...in the past i seem to remember adding 3dattack as a trusted site from in ie and still had problems so i think its definitely on the norton side of things and the attack setup server side...what might be worth 3dattack doing is getting in touch with semantec support and asking why norton seems to block attack images to its website and see if norton have the ip or domain or name servers as things to block for some reason...just point out the many subscribers you have and the problems your users have who use norton...might be an idea...the strange thing is i only get this on this site also.
all that said i think attack are doing a great job with the mag and there contribution to the c4d community spirit and i don't think we should down on the poor guys...they run their ship for us guys...its in our interest to work together and get a happy medium where we can all browse their forums and contribute to the online community. so lets pool our heads together and come up with a fix we are all happy with...

Hi Tank
sorry if you guys feel offended by comments made here, I've not said anything other than I can't see your site properly and wish I could. I have to concur with a few of the others who have posted, and I repeat, of all the sites I visit yours is the only site I have a problem reading correctly. Which is a shame because I'm getting the feeling from successful viewers and downloaders of your mag I'm really missing out on something.
Was going to subscribe to 3D World but yours sounds more of use to me as Cinema hopefully is to become my one and only 3D program as soon as possible.
Hope you find a solution soon. Appreciate your efforts and sure you'll crack it.
all the best.
Alan
Hi alanmac,
I don't think anyone is offended. This is very frustrating for us as well. Most people can view our site, but we want everyone to be able to. Believe me, we are exhausting ourselves trying to find a solution. Hopefully in the next days we will. As we have stated, most people that have a problem viewing the site are using Norton Security 2004, and a few using Zone Alarm. There are the few not using those softwares that also have a problem. We really are trying to correct this problem.
Thanks for the support!

nice issue once again, congrats for the hard work
As promised we are looking into the issue of people not being able to view our site or the graphics on our site. These are a limited amount of people, but we are trying to resolve this issue for them.
For those who are using Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2004. We have contacted Symantec and have gotten a response. We have also had a few programmers look at our script, and everything checks out fine on that end.
From Symantec:
Hello Tavy,
Tavy, I understand your concern regarding this issue. In order to resolve this issue customers have to configure their Norton Internet Security (NIS), Privacy Control settings.
In order to reconfigure NIS please follow the steps provided below:
1. Open Norton Internet Security (NIS) main window.
2. Click Privacy Control.
3. Click Configure button. A new window opens.
4. In this new window, click the Advanced button.
5. A new window titled Advanced with "web content options" tab opens up.
6. Click "Add Site".
7. Enter the URL of the website.
8. Click OK. This step adds an entry to list for that website. Note that if the website was already listed, this action does not add another entry.
9. In the left frame, click the name of that website you had added.
10. In the right frame, select Global Settings tab.
11. Uncheck "Default Settings" for "Scripts", "Information about visited sites", "Information about your browser", "Animated Images" and "Flash Animation" sections.
12. Click on OK.
If the customers have this configured on their systems, only then will this issue be resolved. Any way you can add a link to provide this information for the customers on your web page.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance to you in using the Symantec product.
Regards,
Sree Lakshmi Sugunan
Symantec Authorized Technical Support
The following is a statement from someone who has been trying to help ous resolve this issue as well:
Hi Tavy,
I stumbled accross the answer on another site I visit every once and a while, it appears to be a semi common thing with NIS - the solution is as follows:
-Open NIS>click Privacy Control>click Configure
-Click Custom Level>Uncheck Enable Browser Privacy
That fixed the problem for me and should do so for anyone else that has the same problem in the future. Thanx for the help.
I hope this will help some of you. If not, please be patient with us as we try to resolve this issue.
Thanks for your understanding.
Tavy

something has changed as I am now able to see the images on your site (not using Norton Internet Security), just the same settings I've surfed with for a looong time.
Can others see the images now?

Norton is a system hog and causes more problems than its worth imo. But it is a great security measure, if someone knows how to configure it properly. I just know I have to deal with it on a daily basis at work with customers and it's always a pain specially when the firewall they have comes into play.
Anywhoo great work attackers...im a loyal customer and your service such as looking into the website problems proves your also very cool people.:)
