View Full Version : Highlight n-gons?
GatorNic 02-21-2005, 03:00 PM Anybody know if there is a way to highlight or select 5-sided polys? Meaning I have one in my mesh somewhere and can't find it. XSI has a script that will highlight tris and 5 sided polys. Anything like that for maya?

Try this script :

it's called select non quad.

Haven't seen the script, but you can do the same from Maya's Edit Polygons menu.
With component selection set to Faces, Go to Edit Polygons>Selection>Polygon Constraints and select "All and Next" and "Nsided".

Or just to throw another method out there is to use the cleanup tool, have it select all 4 sided polygons (this works for finding tris as well in case you are going for all quads) and then shift+marquee select over the mesh, this will de-select all 4 sided polys and only select the n-gons and tris. I usually then apply a red blinn shader to those faces after selection to show where I need to edge loop those out to quads.
