its pretty nice, would it be better to show the guy along with the hand,i mean just a half body.composition wise,it looks alil weired with just the hand.just a thought though:)i'd love to see the translucent effect on the dragon wings infront of the moon.:)keep it going friend

Thanks for the input. The original composition was a little different. A man, standing on a cliff, was 'calling' the dragon. Then I thougth of giving the observer the idea of 'being' the caller or see through his eyes. I'll try a variation anyway...

Do you have any suggestion on what type of brushes to use to render materials ? I used chalk to suggest a 'grainy' look at the dragon skin, the glow brush for the moon, airbrush for the hand. I think I'm going to airbrush the wings to give a more skinny look. What do you suggest for background ? Far mountains ? Forest ? A city ? Do you have any idea on how to produce fast 'scales' (for the dragon skin) ?. Any ideas on color scheme ?? ... A lot of questions indeed and I just have to get back to chemistry....DOH!!

I like the dragon. I think it could become ellegant.

But i'm doubtful about the composition - that all main objects are in the left of the image. It looks to static in my opinion.

This is another version with a new character and 'some' detail added and shown to the right. I'll put a background on the right black part.
....suggestions 'about everything' are welcome...
need to work out the hands and dragon body... what do you think of my attempt at rendering the left wing ?

hmm,i'd take a low angle to show the person summoning the dragon,
a higher cliff or rocks on the right portion of the image, alil futher behind the dragon to equalize the weight of the composition maybe?i like the 1st piece but with the comments i made above.:)having the tail of the dragon slightly brush against the water would be great.nite blueish purple moonlit setting perhaps?i've not tried painting a dragon though,i think it would be a pain to paint the scale.i recalled a painting did by steven stalhberg,a gal zaping a dragon with a massive lazer guns?i kinda like the texture he did for the dragon as well as the color setting.maybe u could apply the similar technique to it?
the piece i mentioned can be found here: www.androidblues.com/gallery3.html

This piece has lots of potential, can't wait to see it finished. And love the hair by the way.

Pixelcritter: thanks :) I' usually am the 'incomplete' kind...but I really am here to produce something finished so...stay tuned!

ms@zx: I'm not sure I understood...you suggest water under the dragon (sea / lake), and putting the figure on the right on a cliff with the eye level high above the man, is it right ? I'm upping some concept soon...

some quickie... and a few questions...:
which kind of format ? Vertical o horizontal ?? do you think I need to lower the man more ? Or put it lower and a bit left ? (the dragon is looking in that direction and I'm too lazy to redraw his head...)

If you were perhaps to move the moon to upstage right center and dip the head to be centered on the moon the back lighting effect wiuld increase the erieness and allow us to see the wings. you mentioned an airbrush were you to air brush the wings the transparency would be seen. as to the first person idea buth hands raised palms up one place upon the other might solve the out of body sort of thing. I have but one queatain to ask you where is the center of interest is it the caller or the called? once you make that choice the composition should square it self away by its self. this has extrodinary promise. the man called a dragon what a book title.
