View Full Version : I feel stupid...
bohoo2u 02-20-2005, 10:30 PM Ok I am pretty sure this is an easy thing to do, but I cant figure it out. I want to have an entirely while floor (which I seem to be able to achieve with an environment object in the scene) but I want to have dark shadows on the floor. My shadows always get washed out.
Also, is there a way for a light to cast shadows without illuminating anything?

1. White floor with shadows: add a compositing tag to the floor, and tick the checkbox marked 'compositing background'. Apply white material to floor - render - rejoice.
2. Lights with shadow only, but no illumination. There's a trick.... set the light up as per usual, activate shadows and all that. When you're happy about it, duplicate the lightsource, and set the brightness (in details tab) to the same value as the original, but negative. Deactivate the duplicate's shadow. Render - rejoice. (you will of course need some additional lightsources here, otherwise you will just get a black scene....)

Don't feel stupid.
Be stupid.
It's very liberating.
I'm very liberated.
