View Full Version : How to get order into my hypershader again?

Hi folks, got a lil' prob regarding the hypershader.

I asked several friends but noone could answer my question:

Is there a way to make folders or something like that inside
the hypershader?

I've got a scene with... lemme guess... 50 shaders
and still growing - many with photo textures which slow everything down too.
Now, if I open the hypershader Maya slows down a great deal
and it takes a while until all shader and shadernames are displayed :annoyed:

Wouldnt it be fine if there were several folders, maybe
"ground textures", "environment", "walls and interior stuff", "nature stuff" -- i think u get what I mean.

So.... is there any way to get order back into my hypershader or
am I damned to scroll through all the shaders each time I search
for the Room_wall_left shader? :D

Hope someone can help me

You can create new tabs at the top of the hypershader window. But I think that is all you can do, no matter where you put your materials, they will alwys show up in the default section. You know you can zoom in and out on the materials in the HS?
Showing fifty textures at once shouldnt be a problem for it.
I had a slow video card so I got used to using the Multilister, its basically the same thing, just a little less interactive.

Hehe, jep - i know that I can zoom in / zoom out in the hypershader, but the problem is as above mentioned:
The shaders load very slowly now (with less shaders its faster) and it can take up to 2mins until all shadernames and shaderballs are visible :(

I made new tabs before, but as u said - they'll show up as usual and cause longer loadertimes.

I've got a Geforce 2 GTS - some of you maybe remember the
"maya-slow-down" threads... maybe its the same prob, 'cause
I often get those damn slowdowns, after switching views..

A friend of mine said he had heard of a script with which you
could make folders or stuff like that in the hypershader... dont know
if there's anything like that but it would be great... otherwise I have to check the Multilister...

Maybe someone still has another solution?

Sorry I cant help you with that. I dont think the Multilister will make it any easier for you, though. It still pretty much does the same thing as the Hypershader when loading itself. Do you have all of your texture pics in the same folder on your hard drive?
I dont know if this would help on your end or not, but I always create a new project folder for each different model, and then plop all the textures into their own texture folders. Maybe it reads them faster from there. I have a friend that has basically the same card as you and he has never mentioned having any problems with the HS. He thinks Im crazy for liking the Multilister better.
I have a GF4 Ti and I STILL get annoying little ticks and occasionaly a slow down here and there with this card and Maya. Its too bad, My Oxygen VX1 (32Mb) card ran Maya like a champ. It just wasnt any good with videogames. I wish I had Two Agp slots to have different cards to run at different times.

Oh well enough about me, good luck. Maybe there's an answer out there that will help you more.

No prob - I'm really glad about every reply I get.
To your question: Yep - I'm doing the same: New project folder, new texture folde - everything on a seperate partition.

I've tested a bit around with Multilister and indeed its not much
faster... if there's no solution I have to stick with the Hypershader. :annoyed:

Who said that Maya and 3D in general is something without probs,
hard work and annoying little things that drive you mad everytime you step over it *G*

BUT: I'm still hoping that someone can name another solution - so long I'll wait and drink some more coffee :surprised
