hey gang,
Im having serious problems with maya. It suddenly stopped rendering my paint effects, or my fur. my preview render will render my image minus the fur and paint effects. and my batch render wont even render at all. Has anyone experenced this before? what can i do?

You may also try rebooting

There's a check box in the fur globals called "Enable Fur" make sure that is on.

Well this might help.

My work system doesn't have a fancy video card and it renders the fur just fine. my home system has a ati all in wonder card and fur won't render. (I wish you could turn off all hardware acceleration in maya for certain tasks).

You can try rendering in layers,..render ONLY the fur (with alpha channel) and render only the objects (with alpha channel) then composite them. Worked for me.

Fur is buggy as hell though. My fur would only render on the SGI's when I had my character inside his spaceship but when he was all by himself he rendered fine. Maybe Maya just drops the fur when it runs out of resources.

thanks for your replies, it turns out that Maya was not recognizeing certain objects in the scene. according to maya My pie and my napkinholders didnt exist! even thought i was looking right at them. figures huh. They lost their UV coridantes somehow so I remapped the objects and they worked fine. the same thing happened to a good friend of mine so i know its not my fault. watch out for this guys. thanks for your help!
