I've modeled this hand which i plan to texture and animate only i know very little about texturing and setting up ik-bones and deformers.

So if you guys have some good links for an ik-setup for a hand and/or how to texture a hand it would be much appreciated.

Thx in advance ;]

I can't think of a single reason why you would want to use IK on a hand. Just fill it with bones and skin it. You could wire up the finger rotations to make it a bit easier to pose of course.

Use Bone Tools (under the Character menu in MAX5, and it's available as a plugin for MAX4, though I think it's called "Skeletal Tools" or something to that effect), with that you can change the sizes of multiple bones at the same time. Or you can tweak the size of each bone one at a time if you got the patience.

Anyways, my point is, if your bones are too large.. just.. er.. size them down? They have properties like all other objects, including size-spinners. Don't scale them btw, use their spinners. Scaling bones is.. not good.

Read up on some of the tutorials that comes with MAX, they have stuff on IK and FK and setting up a hand so they're controlled by a couple of sliders. "Custom Attributes" Are Your Friends™ :)

If you want a really close-up detailed animated hand you're probably going to have to invest the time to set up some proper bulge-deformers. Fingers have, in my experience, a tendency to end up looking mighty flat if they're just deformed by your average three-bones-chain per finger. Bulge deformers, which the Skin and Physique modifier has, should help to avoid that.

Best of luck on it, it looks like a nicely-modelled hand.
