View Full Version : How do I vary animation velocity in C4D 5?

Hey guys, I'm using a pretty 'old' version of C4D (version 5) and I'm trying to figure out how I can vary the velocity of an animation. Basically, I want a ball to oscillate between two points but I want it to be traveling the fastest when it's right in the middle of the 2 points, and slow down as it gets closer to each end (and repeat the process)..

Can someone please help me with this?

Version 5? Wow, that reminds me of my first 3D steps :°) I don't think i have a precise answer to your question, haven't used v5 for 5 years, but maybe there's a track that might help you in the timeline. Also i thought v6 CE was free and could be found somewhere...

Well, I found something called "Time Control" in the timeline, and it that window there are options such as "up ramp", "down ramp" ect... which make curves on a graph, but I wasn't able to find information about it on the net (regarding this version of CD4). All the links I found were dead.

could you tell me how I would do something similar in the newest version of CD4? If you did, maybe I might be able to find similar functions in this old version.

I found something called the "Time Control" in the Time Line, and it has an xy graph. It has features like position, velocity, and acceleration. It also lets me apply different curves to the graph, but I dont know how it works and all the links I found on the net leading to tutorials about it were dead.

How would you do what I'm trying to do in the version of C4D that YOU use? Is there something similar to what I described above? If you told me how to do that in the latest version of C4D, maybe I can figure out how to do it in this old version of C4D.

Hi,
currently you would do this with a timecurve, but that was not available in R5. A great many things have been changed from R5 to R9. Maybe you can get hold of one of the free magazine versions of CINEMA 4D 6 CE. There was a big step from R5 to R6 and many things possible today were already possible in R6 but not in R5.
Cheers

Occasionally, the CE version seems to be available via Electric Academy

You need to sign up for a $20 modeling course, which I have never taken, but about which I have heard very good things.
