View Full Version : pivot problem

I have a lid of the box. Both the lid and the box are rotated (I need that in my scene) and the lid pivot is adjusted to be at the edge od the lid, so the lid can be animated to open...
Now the problem is that I can't rotate the thing! The pivot is aligned to the world space if ya know what I mean...
I tried to add XFORM modifier and then to rotate the lid, but - same thing... :(
When I look at the pivot, it looks OK, but rotation just does not work.
(using max5)

huh. sorry...
so many months in Maya, I just can't get used to this max again... :)
It was soooo clever to change from view to local reference coordinate system... :(

Er.. I.. don't know what your problem is exactly, if you want, feel free to elaborate on it a bit. I'm having a bit trouble understanding the symptoms.

But I suggest you simplify things at any rate: make a Point helper object and place it where you want the lid to rotate. Then link the Lid to the Point, the Point to the Box, and.. well that's it. Just rotate the Point helper and what how it pivots beautifully.

Helper objects are your friends as you can thus avoid messing with the actual scene geometry when it comes to pivots and whatnot.

Hope that helps.
