Great start, I'd think about how's he addressing who he's speaking to... Well now I wonder is he reading the paper to review the message before he sends it to his enemy or maybe he's actually talking to someone. I'd make sure that's as clear as can be before working hard on the gestures I'm a bit confused/ either way he needs to read it more, or look up at the camera more as in longer periods of time or holds as most call it. The overall poses work great! My favorite is the arms when he says Lord.. I'd make him drop the paper so it doesn't seem so one sided action wise. I assume you did this pose to pose? check keithlango.com for good tutorials on this. Mkae sure you pose the fingers for those jestures. Haves some fun with the head falling off bit. Work on the hand clipping thorugh the table when he sets it down, looks like f/k since the body moves and so does his arm try ik for that

Matt:

Thanks for the crit, well I was going to have him addressing like a news anchorman style, I am working on him having longer looks at the camera, and I am getting my butt whooped by that hand on the table, between the frames it kind of floats a little and I can't figure out why. I am trying out the pose to pose and I actually just found the keithlango.com tutorials, there a big help and have given me a few more ideas. I am going to try and incorporate the dropping of the paper I like that idea, as well as something with the head falling off.

Thanks again, ill have an updated one up later tonight, back to slaving.

Ok, i have thrown out my old animation idea. I had made such a mess out of the keys and curves that it was inreparable. A fault of my being so new i guess. Any ways i am now doing my animation following a tutorial by Keith Lango found here:

http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/maya/pose_animation/pose1.asp

I have compleated step 1 of the tutorial, and here is my first pose to pose pass:

http://www.geocities.com/rickjohnston12/Block1.avi

I like all of it except that i cant make Genri's head fall off, as the rig is locked and i can not figure out how to get it off. So i went with it just slamming down let me know if you think it looks ok i also have another idea in the works.
Thanks again.

Ok i have yet another update, i ditched the idea of his head falling down and instead went with him picking up one and throwing it. im going to go through tonight and add some basic lipsync and work on modleing a quick head.

Ok I'm starting to like the way things are going with this on a lot better. I think my first few poses are a lot stronger, i added some basic lip sync. I am currently working on my last few poses tightning them up. I am thinking about making him just hold the head in the end and have the head say the last line "at an un fortunate moment!" unstead of the main character, and give a longer hold on the pose. but for now im liking hte way its comming along.
Heres the link! Almost done!

I think ill be ready in a couple more days. This is my first animation and im having fun seeing how it unfolds.

Thanks for looking!

Looks pretty good. I would add more moving holds in there. Maybe when he emphasizes certain words like "hue" and "kind". Right now, some of the poses are getting lost because he's constantly moving. Pretty nice for a first try.

Yea thats what im workin on right now. Im still learning to use the graph editor to help, but it's comming along nicely. ill have my work posted again tonight.

Thanks for the crit.

I agreee with above - he's constantly moving into strange poses which doesnt emphisise what he's saying very well. I'd say re-work some of your main poses and facial expressions.

real quick...sorry if these things have been mentioned already since i just skimmed through the other posts...

- i like the poses up until he says "kind." the pose on "kind" seems awkward, the way his head just moves back doesn't feel right. he also looks to his right on that part. i think you should have him looking at the camera the whole time. perhaps give him a meaner look on his face on that part. i don't think he should move back on that part either
- when his head moves forward, have his body move forward to, it looks like his body is just stiff while his head moves magically towards us. the upper body will react to his head leaning forward like that
- when he says "hate you" i guess he's supposed to be pointing at us, the viewer, but it looks like he's about to write something on paper. a better pose for that position to convince us that he is in fact pointing at us would be better.
- and yeah, some moving holds would be good
- the way he drops the paper seems lifeless. perhaps he should toss it over his shoulder, something to emphasize to us that he is getting rid of this piece of paper instead of just letting it out of his hand...something interesting. think poses again.
- maybe he shouldn't let the head go at the end...it looks like it just floats away like a balloon. it might be stronger to keep it in his hand the whole time and show it off.
-"orange in hue" his eyes wander off to his lower left...it doesn't seem to make sense...i think it'd be better to keep looking at us on that part.
- perhaps close the mouth or pucker it more on the "hue" part.

that might be it for now...i dunno...i haven't slept in forever...i need it

but it looks good right now though...just pay attention to those areas and fix them up and it'll be much stronger. sorry if that sounded like alot or harsh, but it's all for the better.

keep it up and give us an update! the deadline is approaching dude!

Ok here's my days update, i added some simple lights and did a 5 min test render, i fixed the head falling and going over his back, got rid of him looking to the right on "kind". Adjusted where he is pointing when he talks, and calmed down the "Hue" part. I need seom more crits, theres only a few more days left!

thanks

Hey Dude,
Ur latest update, the link to geocities is tellin me this - " We're sorry, but this page is currently unavailable for viewing."
Hope u fix that soon for us please.
Saw ur earlier versions. Luking pretty nice.
You've already got wonderful tips from the guys.
Id stress on HOLDS. Use them......currently ur actions dont seem to clear, they are mixin up coz as the one finishes, without a break the second picks up. HOLDS put slight break so that viewr gets sure about the actions... and gets clear about what ur trying to express.
So HOLD it.......
Goin good....GoodLuck.

Abhi3ds: well i don't know whast to say about the link, it's working for a friend of mine, page may have just been down. Thanks for the tips, i have been working on my holds and my poses. i know i can do better the next time, as this was my first attempt. i learnt a lot in the past 5 days, more than i expected.

thanks
hope the link works for you.

I also get "Sorry, this site is temporarily unavailable!"

hopper2k

i see it.

it looks much better now. i like what you did with the head at the end.

i still think he should make more of a pucker motion with his lips when he says "hue." he kind of does, but it straightens out as he goes through the end of the word. i think the beginning of "hue" should start out as a big, but not too big, "ooo" motion with his mouth, then get smaller as he goes through the end of the word.

good luck.
