nice.. can u show some of the concept design sketchs ..

if u ask for C&C .. i would give 1 on the technical side and 1 on the conceptual :

technical : very good except for the shot where we c the last chiken (with broken leg) .. camera could focus on it, or environment need some feathers and some props(because it looks empty from models and only textures)

choceptual : idea could be stronger if the chiken leader has more dramatic leadership voice and movments .. u know .. something like Lenin or Stalin speaches .. more powerfull and fast movments..

ok .. i have lots of question :
averall its very good.. why u used renderman and not mental ray for maya ? and how did u do the crod shot ? did u render in layers .. can we know how the team (4 people) arrange the project ..

Firas.

Hi allz,

Yes we know the problems with the last chicken, when we can see the broken leg's one, but i think you know, short time, etc.... and others like this type of scene, so we agreed with this, at the end of the project, basicly i like it too.

We use renderman just for the mass, because it was too much for maya. A lot of textures etc...
We used textures with instanced particles for the mass of chicken. And various sequence is starting randomly on it..

One from us was doing the modelling and rendering process, an other one made the textures and bacground matte-paintings, and otther effects. One people made the animation and composit things, and one made the setup, and helped in the animation process and composit too.

Thanks for the comments, and we are waiting for more....

It was really very nice :) Thanks for sharing it with us.

by the way, you mentioned going through Renderman as it was too heavy for Maya to render. How long did 1 frame take you guys to render (out of curiosity)? Also, did you guys render by layers and composite it later?

so true, so true. Great animation, but its hard to appreciate it when you gotta read subtitles the entire time.

Hi Laci..!

Excellent work with feather..! Did you use Renderman shader or some other technique.. because it looks great..! especially on the close views..

And just four people in two months..
With such highest quality work, I'm pretty sure, you'll need a bit more folks in the nearest future (but of coarse if PM stops to speak the stupid things :D )..

Once again - great work..!
Paul.

So,

Coffeefery:

Booth of the mass shoots take 1 hours to render, because you can play with textures and memory in renderman. And all of the other scenes takes 5-6 hours to render, at final. (we rendered about 10k frames with the test renders, and with the re-rendered scenes) The whole mass was one layer.

Greentek:

We rendered the "single" chicks in maya, and had a "simle" maya shader, with a little magic with the feather borders. And the close views has a composit magic for the object edges too.

Thanks for comments,

Laci

hi

i worked in the project too with Laci and with my other friends.

greentek:
here is some more info on the feathers. we created 9 type of feather. smaller, bigger, more, less polygons with various textures on them. after that we duplicated, moved, rotated, scaled them, and after 6-10 hours, we had a chicken with feathers all over her body. this process was done 6 times, when we got chicks we liked. it was very boring :)
we know there are better ways doing it, especially we use renderman, but the deadline ...

after this we combined the feathers in parts (neck, body, head, etc...), and created blendshapes to be able to control the feather`s angle.

so thats it.

we are waiting for other questions, comments ..

oh yes, and we are glad, that you guys like our work :)

Wow, that sounds tedious. Way to buckle down and brute force your way through it though. The results speak for themselves.

Outstanding work! Really captures and contrast the two situations and puts a shine on the product. First Class - congrates!

wow !:bounce:

great work !

( but they messed up the viewer's experience as a whole with the sounds i think...
don't you think ?
i also think that a more strict and energetic voice would have fit the leader more. )

I have two questions:

1 - may i ask what kind of (and how many) machines did you use to render ?
2 - and a word or two about the lighting of the hangar if you have time please!

nice to see such professional work coming out of hands of hungarians
may i say: kurvajó!! ... :)

hi,

hope you liked the anim and stills.

about the voice of the leader chicken: a famous actor`s voice was used for Luyza (the leader chick), so the client wanted that voice for the leader.

the lighting in the hangar: we used neon lights on the ceiling. all neon`s had one light, and we used some other spots with smooth borders on low intensity. after that on the hangar scenes we used some color corrections in post production. green "fogs" and other things like that.

we are waiting for other questions and critiques.

thank you all!

Hi,

We used 5-8 pc, to render, booth are 2,4ghz p4, with 1g ram, and we use 2-3 dual xeon 3,2ghz with 2g ram for the scenes with a lot of chicks.
Composit was rendered on the same machines.

Hi,

Feathers were deformed with wrap using the base mesh of the chicken.
Of course feather groups were driven by separate parts ie. wings; head; body.. for more "optimal" performance.
You know wrap deformer isn't too fast in Maya :)

cheers,

from one of the creators of Doux...

I completely forgot to say EXCELLENT WORK! i would recommend you do a version without the arabic voiceovers, but english instead and give some emotions to the voices.
