View Full Version : Snake wrapped around stick?
davesink 02-18-2005, 03:28 PM I figured someone may have covered this, but couldn't find a posting. I've got a straight HN snake model and I'd like to wrap it around a thin cylinder, (like the physician's synbol). What would be the best way to go about this. It's for an ad comp, so it doesn't need to be absolutely perfect, but it is needed rather quickly. Would bones (which I have limited experience using) or some sort of deformation do it, or some other method? Suggestions? Thanks very much!!!

Howdy,
Well, bones would be your best bet. Since you're only doing a still you won't have to worry about making a rig for the bones. Depending on how detailed the final render is going to be, you may want to use 25 to 40 bones, or so.

Why not use just a helix spline in a sweep for a still?

path deformer would also be a really quick answer - http://www.tarabella.it/c4d/
you would simple deform your snake onto a helix spline
I think there is a demo - really useful easy plugin

I don't know your exact requirements - but I would give the twist deformer a try. Just make sure you have enough detail in the model. Maybe use the twist deformer on the resulting HyperNurbs instead of the lowpoly cage.
Just a thought.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions :applause:
Path Deformer sounds good (Curse that Dollar-Euro exchange rate!) as do the rest of the possibilities.
I'll let you know how it works out.
