I want the best laptop for digital painting as well as running maya. I don't really know where to start. But i saw the link to Alienware and I'm wondering if it's a good system to get:

What other systems out there if not this one, without costing an arm and a leg, are my best choices?

Sager 9860 with Geforce 6800go from either PCTorque or discountlaptops (they have the best prices and customer service that I've found). The Alienware 7700's, GoBoxx 2200, Hypersonic Aviator EX7, Voodoo Envy M:790, Falcon Northwest Fragbook DR 6800, and a few others are the same basic system, just insanely overpriced. The Cyberpower X7 9000 might be a good choice to save money (still not cheaper than the 9860 from PCT or dl.com) but I haven't heard great things about their customer service.

Assuming price is of little to no concern, what's the best way to go.

If you want to buy from a dealer who KNOWS what graphics are about, and have top notch support, you absolutely want to go with BoXX.

I was using a dell 8600 for all that and it worked like a charm for maya , xsi , zbrush and painter. The same one in my signature i am selling cause i want to get a cintique.

Point is you dont need to spend anything over $2000 for a laptop to do 3d work on.

Pixelcritter,

Give me a call. I'd be happy to work something out so you get a great system and a "friends of cgtalk" price.
