Hi

I'm planing to buy a new laptop.
I thought about an Apple Powerbook.
Does anyone have some experience with design on an apple Computer?
Is the Workflow better as on a PC? Sure a Notebook isn't the best solution for designing, but perhaps my next desktop should also be an apple. Does anyone have experience on both systems? PC an Mac.

What System do you use? What do you think about Mac?

Thanks for all help.

Hi...

Well I don't think I can answer to Your question directly but I have been working with desktop MAc's - power G5 (stock dual 2.5) and I have switched to Dual Opteron 250. (First of all the main difference is I have got G6800 Ultra moded to Quadro FX400 and it kicks ass where as in stock PowerG5 I could afford radeon 9600. Another thing is software availability, and probably that is the most important fact why it is worth switching to PC platform).

If You asked me to give a proper mark, I would say:

Performance/price = poor

Design+esthetics/price = very good

OS/price = good

Software/avability = poor (it strongly depends on Your needs, in my case - XSI so poor)

A good friend of mine is working using iBook - G4. He is satisifed however his work is mainly related to writing office documents :)

If I were You and had a desire to buy mobile station I would look for PC. (You can find a laptop with both elegant design and powerful hardware. It strongly depends on vendor and hardware but I can assure You it will be faster than stock G4,G5).

Are we supposed to guess what kind of design you do? You need to be more specific.

Industrial Design? Graphic? Interior? Web?

There are pros and cons for each platform depending what you are talking about.

Ive had a few Macs in the past and they get pushed very hard and rarely (touch wood) ever go wrong. I cant remember a time when I've had to waste a morning trying to fix a Mac.

But having said that they are more expensive and not easy to upgrade. If I were buying one for myself I would probably go for a PC because of that.

I guess it all depends on how well you know your system of choice.

For that kind of work a low end laptop for 1000 bucks is good enough...u may have to ugrade memory to 512 or 1 gig depending how big the image you going to be working with

I use both. For web work, they're both solid since web graphics aren't going to tax your system too much. If I were doing only web design, I'd lean toward the pc mainly because you want to preview your sites on the most used browser/platform combo(s).

I'd let the software guide you.
For me, it's Dreamweaver so it's PC.
