This is a projet that I did with a friend of mine, Jessy Veilleux. A great Matte Painter. You should see is stuff here: http://www.jessyv.com/
We went in a cimetery to have some references and photos. Then, modelded few objects like the church and tents. and finally painted details, ambiance, etc.

The mood in this image is great. But what I for one would love to see is some sort of breakdown, what's 3d, what's mattepainting, elaborate, 'educate' us :)
perhaps you could show us some more images, the mattepainging behind the wireframe for instance, the wireframe alone, the mattepainting alone. Showing things like that are interesting.

Nice! The picture has a great ambiance and I really like the contrast between the circus and the cemetry. I do think the graves on the cemetry are a bit to clean and white, though. How are the trees done? Painted or photographed? Or actually 3D?

I love this piece. I can 'feel' the time period and location. Excellent atmosphere. The only thing I find sorta strange is how far the camera is from the circus. It makes you feel far away from the focus, but still, it's an extraordinary piece and I love it.
Excelent work, this image transmit to me an extrange feeling.... but I love it

Thank for Comments.
I will post a 3D render image on my website soon to show you what is in 3D. But it's pretty mush simple: The Church, the blue-yellow tents and lamp-posts are the only elements in 3D.
The rest is photos mixed with painting.
I'll let you know as soon as I will upload the 3D render image on my Web Site.

Thanks for share the original render with us (I see it in your website). I think, as I said before, this image very very good, but I think this is more a 2d work than a 3d ... Any way, great job.

Congrats! It made me laugh at first! It's a quite morbid concept... Then i took it as real, your work as great quality if not photorealistc!
Keep it up, i'd love to see more of your stuff. You're a winner, for sure!

Three words come to mind: Rembrant, Corot, Eakins and more. And you, in my opinion, vastly surpass them (how is that possible?) ...well, you have. I think you've not only met them, but in adding the lights on the left side, have advanced them. I'm still thinking about your painting.
You're doing things that have never been done before in terms of refinement and combination.
A Delicate hand and a fine Eye.
Really fine work. ~

Hi CelticSpiral, (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=151241)There is almost too much good comments. Thank by the way, but there is so much things we could do (Jessy Veilleux and I) to improve this image. Starting by upgrading the level of realism for the church and tents and lamposts for sure.
Fred
very nice pic !!! love the lighting ...it really sets it off !!!

To me it doesn't look like haunted all that much, instead, it looks more like a comfortable sunset with nice atmosphere. Either way it's excellent in composition and lighting. The shadows fall on exact places that simply holds up the whole structure of the frame.

you created a beautiful mood in your painting. It looks as if god himself watches this cemetary... Fantastic lightning...

That's true! It does'nt really look haunted, mostly because of the yellowish mood. Maybe it's a mistake from me. I don't know.
