I need to divide a object a couple of times. The problem is that the object is to big, so when I'm using the knife I have to zoom out to see the whole object, beacuse I have to cut the whole object and due to that I can't get a perfect cut.

So What do I do?

Cut a couple of polygons at a time or what?

The cut is quite easy - it's through the whole object and 90 degrees.

please advise

use inner extrude instead.

Bunk had a method of doing that where you kept one set of points selected then did an inner extrude then optimzied the points...

It was a littlecomplicated, but it worked.

thanks for the answer...bunk if you see this, please let me know.

I'll try it - seems like the best way to go.

thanks again

the way i'd do it is i'd do a rough cut through your object zoomed out, then i'd select the points created by the cut and just use the numeric input to position them correctly.

there used to be a wonderful tool in lightwave called the bandsaw just for these kinds of thingsm cut the selected polys at certain positions u/v. it was very good for adding more polys in difficult places in a controlled manner, for instance to add definition along the bridge of a nose. wish there was something like it for c4d.

oh another alternative is to just use snap to point and select each poly zoomed in and cut it by hand there...

<----searched in vain trying to ifnd the place where Bunk outlined that technique....

It really worked too and I forget how to do it...

thanks for the answer...bunk if you see this, please let me know.

The trick Grey is talking about dates from a pre Cutter period and can be found as part of the Meissie tutorial 'Adjusting Bodyparts'. But there realy is no need for this trick if you have got Cutter.

However I don't think this will help you out unless the polygons you want to cut are already ordened in a straight line.

Where can one get cutter?

I've been looking for such a tool to no avail.

what i currently do is alot of knifing and untriangulating.
which, isn't to tedious if you have you hot keys setup

I also have my fingers crossed for some new structure tools in R8, that'll be better than christmas.

Cutter is great, 'specially when used with the selection tools (for selecting bands of polys.) But always remember to use optimise after cutter!!!!

I also use stitch and sew a lot in conjunction with cutter :) ,I just wish the author would put it on a site or something where I can buy a non limited version wih my credit card.I am not real fussed on leaving my card details on paypals site though so I can pay the guy and unlock the extra functionality with the reg code.

selection tools (for selecting bands of polys

Yep, can agree with that, they have really made life a bit easier.

Stich & sew is also wonderful - but a can agree with you when it comes to the paying method..

I am very curious about version 8 to see how it works..can't they release it some time..all this waiting is terrible
