A good question.

How much of that did i create my self? Well thats what poser is all about, and that's why it so popular, u take different stuff, combine it all set the camera and lights and render.:)
I don't know much about 3d max for example, but i can imagine how much time it would take there to make the same picture.

Would'nt you feel alot better about the piece if you had created it from scratch tho? ;)
Not trying to bash you or anything, just suggesting that maybe it would benefit you more to start playing around with a real package rather than just posing stuff out?

Just my 2 cents! :bounce:

Yes you are absolutely right. I could try to do that in MAX and spend enormous amount of time, yes i would feel better that i did it all my self from scratch, but i would also feel bad that i spend so much time on it and knowing i could it much better and quicker in Poser 5.
Someone tell me what's main advantage of max or maya compared to poser.
I'm just knew at this.

A real 3D package allows you to create anything and everything that your imagination desires. You can create characters, environments, lights, atmospheres, universes, 3D objects, 2D objects, texture, color, compose, use state of the art renderers & lighting setups...basically whatever your little heart desires. You can create the impossible.

And Poser is a 3D figure design tool for artists, illustrators and animators that enables you to easily create 3D figures from ready-to-use human and animal models. Oh, and not to mention that most Poser models & images I've seen are hideous. But there are some exceptions.

Somehow those two seem totally different...no? :scream:

i think that in general, max and maya and xsi etc etc allow you to learn the true nature of 3D....the in's and out's, the different modelling techniques, rendering, texturing and all the rest. They will give you a skill that you simply cannot get from posing a prefabricated figure in a package like poser.

So I guess it all boils down to how serious you are about 3D. If you want to become a skilled artist that can sculpt a 3d vision of beauty with your own skills and your own style, I'd recommend a copy of max or maya. But if you just want to have some fun posing some quick 3D characters, but aren't too bothered about becoming the Da Vinci of the 3D world, then go for Poser.

the mention of poser makes me ill.

well if somebody keep making awesome human model in real modeling software (which is not poser), the more chance that person get hired by many awesome companies out there who make movies, commercials and game cinematics

if you keep making it in poser, no matter how good it is, there's no way in hell those awesome companies want to hire you

but if you don't want to be working as a modeler, and all you want is just making 3D model just for the hell of it, there's nothing wrong with poser

and last but not least

the very bright pink background is hideous

poser is a very good for commercial product.........as i know......many poser user play it for hobby in 3d.....just like a moden `barbie doll`.many ppl didin`t need to model a whole charactor plus cloth and sell it as commercial product.that is because everyone use the body size like `victoria 3` to model a cloth, pant, shoe etc..........
i don`t know y so many ppl didin`t like poser user??poser stuff also create by the 3d app like maya,max,....etc then export to .obj format.my conclusion is.....poser stuff creator still great ,but if they are poser user that is they like.because many ppl buy poser stuff just for hobby to play.if they the user know to model it they no need spent money to buy it.
i`m not a poser user at all,but what i know is `poser stuff` can good sales compare with the model sell at turbosquid.i have few friend just sell poser stuff as his freelance....he is a good max user but he just earn money from poser user........ :D

forgive my poor english

thank you

The reason poser isn't viewed in a favorable light is because it isn't a powerful 3d program. If i said to you "That models good but i think you make the nose not as pointy and the lips fuller and the textures more high res. Also the the eyelashes are too long and the tear ducts could use some work..." i don't think you'd be able to do that (granted i haven't used poser, so you may be able to do that). But lets say you wanted to create a really cool space marine or something of that nature, i don't think poser has a 'space marine' button, or an ogre button, or a whale button, etc.... Thats why people don't like poser.

Poser is all well and good in some situations, but not in most. thats my 2cents

Maya, Max XSI, Lightwave etc..... = drawing something I thought off...... all mine, no one else's

Poser: taking a X-Men marvel comic book and tracing the character Storm and then calling it mine....

i dont think you can call poserwork your "own" , you are basically taking premade elements and composing them together, its like if you took a movie and edited out all the parts you didnt like, Could you call it your movie now?? seriously it looks nice but it was created by someone else so theres no way you can take praise or critique on this, thats just my .02 :)

Dont be too hard on the guy for using poser. Poser is actually quite addicting and I probably wouldn't have gotten as interested in computer graphics had I started with 'the real deal.' I Use 3ds max. and have dreamed about learning it since I first heard of it (although I am in my freshman year of college majoring in game art and design right now so as you may have guessed, I'm not all that good yet) But I still think poser is a very fun and useful program. By the way Raphael it is a brilliant artistic composition the close up of the face has a real punch to it.:)

come on guys....i think we should give rafael a break here.
ok....poser might not make you an expert modeller, but i see nothing wrong with using it as a good starting point when you want to get into 3d. i think if i was in his shoes, i'd feel absolutely discouraged from posting any more images after all the harse critisism (which has been aimed mainly at software choice). and we're not here to bully people out of doing 3d now, are we?
after all, we all have to start somewhere (i started by making dodgy looking mountains in bryce :p)....so I say keep playing with poser until you feel confident enough to try out max or maya or xsi, then start learning more advanced modelling techniques and churn out some of your own cool and unique characters :)
best of luck
