View Full Version : Gaps between triangles in mental ray displacement

Hello, I'm trying to render a sort of ocean sphere using mental ray displacements, (because MR is much faster than the default maya renderer in these circumstances.. but I'm getting the strangest behaviour.. huge gaps in between my triangles..

I'm using a geodesic sphere for this purpose, maybe that's not the right primitive? I get this problem with nurbs as well. Can anybody diagnose this issue? I'd be very grateful.. please see the sample below:

In case anybody's interested.. softening all the normals does the trick.. my 'rendering in mental ray' is on order from springer-verlag.. ( // ._.)

Yes, that is how you fix it. If the normals are all fully hard, then it will break apart.

There are a whole slew of normal tools under the polygons->normals tab.
