Ahh, what could be more romantic than the Knights of the Round Table?
The small painting is by an artist named Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale which I used as reference to help me a little with the pose.
No time for color today. Got to get to work.

Romance is not only about "happy couples" and "red roses". Its also a painting style that appeals strongly on the emotions. This is a bit experimental interpretation of monet:

I'm happy you like it. I think I overworked it a little too much. I still have such a problem 'stopping' at the right point instead of just going on and going on.
And Jånnis - awesome, I'm so glad to see you've had use of the gif I made :D the eye is looking great!

This turned out to be more than just a sketch. I got caught by the subject and time ran away. I made this in about 3-4 hours in photoshop.
When I started sketching I didn't have a clue where I was going, but the more I painted the more I knew what it would turn into.
My 14 year old sister died in the tsunami the 26th december 2004. She would have turned 15 the 29th, she never did.
This picture is in the memory of her. I dedicate this picture to my sister Moa and her boyfriend Nisse, he survived the disaster.
I'm sorry if this isn't really a sketch but I just had to do it this way.

Enayla,
That picture is fantastic. If we all move in can we go to support groups together and get free coffee and donuts? I'll pay to live in your dirty basement, hows about that? :)
Lingon, I loved your picture. It gave me a cold feeling, sort of like after watching the movie "ghost" really cool to do a picture in memory of your sis.

Hello everybody!
My name is Carlos felipe León and I've finally decided to grab that wacom and do something serious!
I'm from Colombia and this is a painting of the most romantic place I've ever seen. It's on the north coast, a little lake called the "enchanted lake" the best thing about this place is it has bioluminicent plankton (is that how it's spelled?). Anyway this is my first ever painting, and I really want to keep at it so I can learn to use color and light. I usually just draw. Please tell me what you think about this so I can improve.
Thanks a lot!!

fcint - Welcome. Very nice first painting, and no reference! Very nice. The lighting overall is nice. I especially like the light on the clouds. Keep posting I can't wait to see more.
CodeNothing - These topics lately really seem to be bringing out something extra. This ranks up there as one of my favorite DSG sketches. I really like the combination of loose sketch lines and painting. The emotion in his (your?) face is subtle but powerful.

A note to everyone about the threads this week, Love is...red...romance, etc. Didn't anyone notice that this is the week of Valentine's Day? Maybe that's just an American thing? I heard once that it was a made-up holiday that the greeting card companies invented. I wouldn't be surprised. But whatever the reason, Thank you Roberto! This is the history of valentines day as i heard it....
Back it the day, the european armies would only allow single men to be soldiers because single men made better fighters. They didnt have there minds on wifes and kids just the army and fighting.
So anyway, There was one priest named... (something) Valentine. And he would marry these soldiers in private against the churches orders.
so one day he gets turned in. And he is sentanced to death.
apparently he had a love of his life as well and wrote letters to her from prison. and the night before his execution he wrote his last love letter to her and signed it, "from, your Valentine"
and the love story was told through the generations and evolved into what we now know as "Valentines Day"
i have no idea if thats the truth, but thats what i was told. I should look into it more someday. :)

Xillion, ive used simple roundbrush with opacity and flow jitter pen pressured. hardness 100% as main brush for this one. and a little of my customs nothing special. then i've used smudge (normal brush hardnes set to 0%), than again normal brush and some noise filters, and again brush mixing. i've attached some of my brushes, i've used them also for grand space opera. all brushes used here for the romance are included :).
Thanks Enayla, actually it's a mush larger composition from the beginning,
with the couple, that now is skydiving, sitting on the hood of that vehicle
you see partly of now and drinking vino and watching the sunset...
but sometimes things turnout different than you expect
I guess I'm not ready for those big ones yet...
Thany I like that one, especially the purple leaves.

"Ahhh Cindy," He said, " the tower of womanhood - be it an apartment block, a semi-detached bungalow or indeed the circular monolith of suffering and imprisonment that the fairytale creates - all represent to me a seemingly impenetratable outer, which, once conquered, offer a veritable Eden of delight and pleasure to the valiant knight whom defies it..."
Then, he took her in her arms, pulled her close to his aching heart and kissed her, like she had never been kissed before.

Hi everyone!
Since i'm wacomless i can't join in :( but ur all doing a excellent job here.'
Linda - i don't know if there's any point in even posting a reply... Amazing material, and concept and all of the other aspects that a painting can possibly be precieved from are just as great. Don't take this negatively, but every picture u post, i immediately send to a friend of mine (who draws amazing, and she's a big fan of yours too) and we just spend 15 minutes cursing you and feeling bad for ourselves, and exclaiming sentences like "A ****ING HOUR AND A HALF! CAN'T BE!!" or "I'M NEVER DRAWING AGAIN!" or (and this actually usually come from HER) "does she have a boyfriend?!" or "HER WACOM MUST BE ENCHANTED!" etc.etc.... anyway - gj hehe
Goro - Dude i haven't replied to any of your stuff in a long time, so lemme make this a concentrated reply - you're really really good man!!
I think that you're image, on this thread, has absolutely captured the ESSENCE of the word romance. it is by far the best in this thread regarding the topic. kudos and good luck on ur final presentation in uni, or whatever it is.. i'm not really that knowlegable when it comes to high academic studies :)
Hmm... I looked through this topic and thought - why don't I take 5 minutes off and draw something goro-and-enayla-killer. So I did. And I didn't even need a tablet. So here you are dudes, meet your doom (3) and eat your hearts out :)
