I couldn't manage to focus on a red subject, so here's a big doodle instead. I did start with the word RED though, so to me it's on topic. Or, you could imagine that the kittens name is Red. Redford the little black cat. Yes, this is a portrait of my imaginary kitten named redford.

Wonderful work everyone. Except for that picture that scared the crap out of me - heheh, that one was awesome ;]

I had no choice but to draw this. As soon as I saw the topic 'red', she popped out and screamed at me, I swear! About 40 minutes, photoshop, wacom tablet. Then I threw a light texture on top of it.

geez you're damn too good. :( got any good tutorials for anatomy? I'd love it if you post some walkthroughs and videos of how you paint in Photoshop! ALL HAIL TO ENAYLA!

Enayla
02-15-2005, 08:21 PM
Hahah, no, don't hail little me. *hides*

I haven't done any anatomy tutorials yet (but there's a good idea! I'll try doing one as soon as I can), and I don't think I'll do any full-painting tutorials again :/ It just bugs me a little that they end up being copied so closely. My little 'detail' tutorials is better that way, people seem to use them differently :}

I did a neat little thing the other day, which I'll turn into an eye-tutorial when I have the time: eye gif (http://www.furiae.com/images/eyeprogress2.gif)

When I think of red I think of China or Japan. I don't know why that is but I just associate them with an intense red. So I did this sketch based on that without getting too specific with it. Notice the red lanterns too, which I think of when I think of red. Anyways, this took an hour or so with photoshop.

Thany--Stunning sketch my friend. Very nice work!

Evening ladies and gents. This is a tuff one, especially in pencil.
I usually follow along with these but I'm always so lazy to actualy get around to scanning it... *sigh* There are some genuinely whicked submissions from what i've seen. There really is something disturbing about a red canvas with some minor scratches.

Nathanie West: Thanks man! That means a lot to me. I've admired your work since I first saw your "if humans were furniture" sketch. Reminded me a little of Craig Mullins. I noticed that you're from LA. Are you currently working as a concept artist, professionally?

CodeNothing: Awesome! Good to see you going with a very painterly style.

Leviron: Like it! The hair gives that painting a lot of energy, which I like.

Rasdasa: Awesome sketch! Very dynamic! Good perspective.

Kirt: Oh man! Love that energy in your painting! So much action. You've really captured the sense of motion.

AtmaWeapon: Cute sketch. I like it! As for lighting tutorial, I'll see if I can make one. Unfortunately, I seem to have gone over my bandwidth...20 gigs gone in half a month...

Andersh2404: I like it! I miss using the real thing...I just can't afford paint anymore.

RobertoOrtiz: I love your sketches! Great style.

FridayEve: That's just awesome! Love the colors and the brush strokes.

musicraker: Not bad, I think you should throw in a few more colors. My eyes are drawn to the light in the center, it then follows the river down and sweeps across to the rock, which then leads my eyes to the big tree and through it's branches to an empty sky and hill. I think you should add something of interest there that will lead the viewer's eye back into your painting.

called from the chemist Dalton, who had this infirmity.

Great piece Goro, I have always loved your robots. Always so much personality in them.

I know its already been said quite a few times, but its great to see so many of the "old skoolers" back in the forum. Combined with some of the new talent here this is becoming quite the list of "masters". There is just so much to learn here.

Dan Seagrave is an illustrator who did pretty much every Thrash/Death Metal Album Cover worth getting back in the 90's!

Here's his site...

Enjoy!

Thnx Mustardwash! I'm glad to be back!

Thnx Ilikesoup! Couldn't resist to do another Goro-Bot hehehe

Art2 Just love your way of shading...and no I didn't try that yet...hehehe :applause:
And what kind of brush do you use in painter to get these smooth transitions?

Art2
02-16-2005, 11:38 PM
Goro, ape-dude, glad you like my shading :) I'm still experimenting 'n stuff.
In Painter I feel most comfortable with the Oils Round Camelhair brush.
For this piece I used combination of Oil Pastels Chuncky 30 (for the blocks) and I always use RCamelhair for the transitions. Maybe not the fastest way, but heh, it works for me. So I use no blenders. I always work in highres, this way you can use RCamelhair for blending, just vary the Feature (1.5-3 in this case, the higher res you work, the higher the feature setting) and pick (alt-click) the adjacent color (hope I explain this correct - the color between the 2 colors you'd like to blend).
That's all really. Especially when you scale the highres file down, you'll get pretty blends.

Here're the settings for the RoundCamelhair, nottin' special really...

Hey thanks Adamos :) - I'd been reading about Picasso that day. I'd never really liked his work, but the more I learned about him the more I began to appreciate his amazing talent.

Although I didn't reference anything, I had Les Desmoiselles d'Avignon in mind while painting it.

Glad you liked it :)

Andrewley, I'm not that big on abstractfulness, but I think that piece is pretty ill. It has a real sense of girth and pulse.

Hmmm...I came into the habit to check the daily sketch forum every once in a while and pick any of the current topics that I feel like giving a swing. I'm not sure if that's close enough to the spirit of it, but it's really fun for me. So I apologize myself for jumping in very late on a few days.

There's some absolutely stunning work here.
Enayla, I'm speechless,
Art2, great work...typical concept art feel
Andrewly...you are challenging directions and beautifully so!
Drumwhore...man, it's been a while!
Thany...epic as so often! Great!
Rasdasa...that's truely red! Haha, fantastic!
Kirt...very very neat...what a disaster...love it!
Enayla...again...I'm still speechless
cordis...800x600...it would work almost better! Size ain't everything (hihihi)
SteveV...UH you couldn't wait, huh?! Great!
Goro...? HAHAHAHA....man....it's alright, I think! Too cute!
William b. Hand....medival...bizarre...curious...I like it!
The Ton...it's hellboy alright.
buzzz3d....warming up again, huh?! :)
BloodStone ....it really has something...I'm a bit troubled with the collar!

Lot's of incredible work, gals and guys!

Hey Taron, your image is just how I imagined "the mystery train's" gateway to another dimension in Dean Koontz's book Seize the Night.

Except for one or two like Bumskee it look like all the originals are here for this topic!

Awesome, thanx! A gateway to another dimension is exactly what I thought about it. It felt so much like there's a whole world behind this opening and I was so fascinated by the expressiveness due to the contrast...curious depth. Real fun, actually!

It's so entertaining to see all these ideas...and displays of great skill and imagination. I really like this thread, too! :bounce:
