View Full Version : EAS (Extrude along spline) not working in 9.1

Does anyone remember this old plugin? http://home.arcor.de/m1.haller/plugin/EAS_e.htm It's quite a useful little plugin. It doesn't seem to work with the new 9.1 update for me. Can anyone else comfirm this? Any ideas for workarounds to easily achieve the same results?

Upon looking at the Console manager under the Windows menu, it reads the following:

Coffee Error!
(118) Variable or function expected
File: EAS.cob
Line:1
Row:~1

Yes, same thing goes for the MAke Thicker plugin; the thing to do would be to contact the programmers of teh plugins, and see if they would write an updated version of these.

I read somewhere that this has to do with the end of the cob file. Looks there are some things changed in coffee...
Same should be true for MakeThicker...

btw: I can use the loop and ring selection, but I get no preview of what I have selected. The only workaround is activate/deactivate "show axis", or switch to a tool like move or scale. Live and rectangular selection do give preview.
Problem occurs in all three modes: points, edges and polys.

Yes, I get this as well. The plugin doesn't load and the console manager gives the same message. A shame, as EAS performs a basic modelling function worthy of being a core feature.

Also, my right Alt key doesn't work with the update (Windows XP).

A couple of small glitches but overall a great update!

If you look at the Console panel after start-up you'll see which plugs are having problems.

MakerThicker - doesn't show as plugin
EAS, ExtrudeAlongSpline - doesn't show as plugin
Freeze Deformations - loads but freezes first frame only

Added: Crowd tag loads as a plugin but will crash program. PC Win2000.

Hi lllab
"i cant live without the make thicker plugin, thats bad news:-("

You dont need the make thicker plugin anymore , use the extrude tool with active

"create caps" , is the same effect.

Coffee faced huge SDK changes. In R8, even a lot of XL6 COFFEE plugins still worked, but with the changes to coffee, a lot of them won't work unfortunately. some more I"ve found not to work

ALT isn't working for what exactly, can you specify? have you tried removing your PREFs file?

Man how did i use C4D so long without knowing about EAS...awesome plugin (and I have 8.5, so this bug works for me because I learned about EAS hehe)

Yeah, EAS was definitely a great plug that should be programmed into the core. Actually, with the Matrix extrude function, it seems like it would be pretty easy to do. Just add a paramater to constrain the extrude to a spline.

The Alt key to the right of the spacebar isn't working at all, it's as if the key is disconnected. It works fine in all other apps and earlier versions of C4D. Removing the prefs folder doesn't make any difference but thanks for the suggestion.

You can always use the clothnurb instead of the make thicker plugin.
Subdivision 0 and thickness of you're needs.
Works almost the same..

Peace,

its depends on what you are expecting it to do. Are you trying to go the menu using ALT like in other apps. You will find most 3D apps have disabled this function to take advantage of ALT as a modifier key. Hold ALT and then use your different mouse keys in the viewport (while still holding alt) to move, rotate, and zoom.

The Alt key to the left of the spacebar works as it normally has for all of my C4D commands. The Alt key to the right doesn't. The left Alt key will move, rotate and zoom the viewport, the right Alt key won't. The left Alt key is reported in the Command Manager when used as a modifier, the right isn't, etc. The right Alt key is not being recognised by R9.1, period.

No one else has complained of this so I assume there's some weird synergy between my system and R9.1.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll jump through various hoops till I hopefully find a solution.

HI Darter, I just tried it on my system and you are right, only the Left ALT key works, the right none does not respond. This goes also if I try to assign a shortcut to the right Alt key in the command manager. I guess this could be a problem for people working with the right hand on keyboard, left on the mouse.

Thanks for confirming this moka-j. I suppose it's the sort of thing many users might not notice, depending upon how they work.

Maxon is aware of this and I'm sure that it will be fixed in a future update.

Sorry for derailing the thread.
