hi...
check out this animation, i made it a while ago
before i knew anything about lighting, and i used some of my first models
in other words when i was new in the 3d world.. im still new (less then one year)

You can add more weight to your character by having him shift his center of gravity from one leg to another. Think about the hips over the feet. And when he hops off the bench, have him bend his knees more and pull his feet up.
