View Full Version : Rope with rigidbodies

hello
Is it possible to have rigid body object thrown trough air with a maya hair curve attached to it that pulles the object back when the curve length is done.

Basicly that the object cant be thrown longer then the rope length witch then pulls it back.

Been trying to get this effect without success:(

I've also tried but there's no way. A good solution is this:

create a long line of cubes and your object you want to pull.
Add grvity to them. now, create pin constriants between the objects.
Animate the first cube so it fits your needs (make it a passive rigid body, cause you can key their position.) now, create a nurbs cylinder. scale this over your cubes so it looks like a rope. Give it enough spans, best to make it the exact amount of cubes. Now select the CVs on the nurbs cylinder according to each cube and create a cluster for these CVs.
Parent or point constriant the cluster to the according cube. Do this to all the cubes.

Thank you for your help and the scene file.

It works like a charm, but I having problem limiting the stretch of the curve, I need it to be more like a rope then a rubber band.
Is there any way to limit the stretch of the hair.

I'm glad you like-it. And to fix the strech I think you have to change the stiffnes&Damp of the rigidConstrain. I will tell you once I get home from school.

I've tried a bit to make-it stiffer but I only succeded do it more stiffer. Anyway to do this set rigidConstraint's stiffness to 25, damp to 1 and rest length to 2. If anybody has ideas please post them :)
