View Full Version : Faked Caustics, possible?

I am doing an underwater animation, that carp again, and to get nice caustic appearing from above I am having to use at least 8000000 photons and a displaced surface to shine through. This is going to take WAY too long to render does anyone have a good preset to use as a light gel? I have tried a few noises but don't get a convincing light!

There's a little free program called Caustics Generator (or something like that) - it generates water caustic patterns, even animated ones..... can't remember where i found it, you'll have to do some googling.

Maybe you could use cinema to 'generate' a caustic image on a simple scene then use it as a light gel.

I am dowloading as we speak! After all the playing I've done in the last week I never though to use a plain black plane with caustic on it and us it as alight gel.....hmmm. I anted to use caustics on my carp anim, part one, which you can see at http://www.neilyb.de/nbdesign/animation/animation.html (flash 6, 350k)
