The new glossiness feature is very nice, though it is expensive to render but for stills it is OK!

You can achive milk-glass look by pushing a white value in the diffuse above 1.00! Though you screw up the physical correctness of the scene. But acceptable trade off.

Great shader! Respect!

Hi guys, Im trying to use this new update for 6.5, does it work? When I try and render with this applyed to an object the render doesnt even start. Only thing I can think of is that its just made for 6, I didnt see anything about the version except in the instructions to install. Is that my problem or am I just doing something really dumb? Any help would be great.

It should work fine (the 2.0 beta) in Maya 6.5. It does for me. Maybe double check your Maya.rayrc for typos?

increase the values of raytracing in the render globals.. (up to 200)

Ray defraction in a glass ball due to its geometry would mainly show the sky (or anything above the geometry) maybe your environment is to empty and there is nothing to reflect/refract.

(But it's more likely that you must increased rays like suggested earlier, but I thought I'll post this just in case)

It should be 7.1, chekc your system32 path for that!

did i hear someone say this shader might get compiled for mac soon? i must say i'm interested. if i knew anything at all about coding i'd be glad to help. if there is anything an uneducated artist can do to help, please let me know, and if it is made compatible with a mac, would this forum be the best to check? or should i go to the lobber page? thanks, and good luck with it!

How is this shader different/worse that the dielectric shader that comes with MR? I'm getting very good results out of both shaders. (although still no transparent shadows. Do I have to use an area light perhaps?)

I think you have to attatch mib_shadow_transparancy shader you have in hypershade.

It goes into the the shadow shader slot in the mental ray section of the shading group node.

The shadows seem to appear when you set the "mode" to "1". And I added a "mib_light_infinite" (light shader) to my dir light to see the shadows through the glass.

I only found this out recently so I may be missing some points here.

anyone know of a way to get imprinted logos (not labels, i mean actually part of the glass) into the glass? Would displacement work with this shader (never used displacement in MR so i dont know)?

Any ideas?

Does anyone know why I can get Maya's Fluids to appear in the glass? I have a bottle using the glass shader, and inside the bottle, I have a fluids simulation, yet it wont show up in the render.

Anyone have any ideas?

You probably need to turn on 'Visible in Reflections' and refractions on the fluid node. I think it's off by default.

I'm getting strange results with this shader and emiters. The shaders seems to refract the the actual fluid container (i have also had the same problem with a particle container so i know its not a fluids problem).

Refer the pic.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, there are some "issues" with particles/fluids and MR.

Try setting your shadow method to 'simple' rather than 'segments'. I've been finding it to be the miracle cure for all sorts of crazy things lately.
