Hey all just wanted to show you some of the work I am doing for a friends project/thesis. There are multiple pieces I am working on at the same time, including being the CG Sup for the project. You can see the other WIP here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=210062&page=1&pp=15) that is also part of the same project. Critiques on both these ongoing projects is most appreciated!

This part is a baby that is mal-deformed and eventually at the end of the piece it will ellude to the death of him. Trying not to go to deep into my friend's thesis, this baby will be anatomically correct including all internal structures, due to the fact that the baby's transparency will change over the course of the piece.

I would also like to say that if you might be offended by something like this then please do not continue on. My friend and myself are not trying to offend people, but this piece does imply ideas of sickness and death. It is for his Thesis project at a graduate level.

I won't be putting up any reference material for now as there was too much to post and some is copyrighted. So here is the progression so far:

Started simple and gradually work my way to a full formed baby. Sorry right now I don't have any between pics. The modeling was done in XSI.

The baby's outer skin would be changed, to be more anatomically correct. We were shooting for a baby around 6-7 months. *However* even though the baby was to be similiar to a baby of this age there would be some differences and the outer skin will become more deformed to fit with the stylistic and dream states that this thesis piece will have.

Added fingernails and toenails. However later these would be changed because they were just way too developed.

The work would then continue on into the interior systems of the baby including the skeleton and circular system. I used a lot of different references to try and get the growing structures correct.

Here is a link to a render of what I had done up to this point. Right click and do save as (its a quicktime, 5.5mb)

Started adding some of the larger vein systems. The other smaller veins would be implied more in the textures when I get there. Again every little detail counts due to the different transparencies that would be used throughout.

Changes would be made to the outer skin. This is where the mal-deformed part comes in. I don't want to get into the whole thing, but it was necessary to deform the baby such that there would be large areas in the cranium where swelling took place.

A somewhat realistic placenta was then modeled.

Looks good. I like the detail in the skeletal structure. Well done. The finished product should be awesome. Keep us updated.

Thanks Satch! Yeah hopefully the end product will be awesome. Still have a long way to go though, especially a ton of texturing.
