yeah cool clip!
i like the handdrawn background in the intro!
and the dragons are really cool i think, did ya modell them?
the environment fits really cool, very authentic and the movements are also great..i think if we have dragons today they would act and move like this!
great piece of work!
(did ya create the flames in 3d appz or in after effects?)

if this ain't candy for the eye, I don't know what is . ..
one small thing is that the cut from hittin the water to drowning looks a wee bit akward . . . before the cutaway, it looks like he still in the motion from laying on the water to being sucked into it, while after the cut, he's fully in the water . . .
but MAN what an animation . . .:thumbsup:

that background looks really familiar to something Yanick Dusseault did. I really like that though. I like how you were able to incorporate it into your short animation. heres the site if u want to know what im talking about. Btw, im a new member and this is my first post. i hope to post some of my stuff in the near future. im takin a first semester class in 3d animation right now.

Can you say big screen ... within five years, that will be the next summer block buster
Hi,
first of all thank you,
we try to make up a small making of, so i think in a couple of days i will post it on my site, i think this will answer some questions,
@DxExtreme
the flames are actually stock footage, we tried 3d flames and they were pretty good, but at last we decided to use some real footage.
@lildragon
we did this in our freetime in the afternoons and evenings, and we used about 4 Month (oops)
@equinox
you are right, the crash scene was a little longer and the animation did match well then, but we cut a way some frames in the end because the water particles did not really look good in the last frames.
thanx a lot

Fantastic work! The best part, to me, was the breaking of the bridge, especially that last chunk, how it delayed. That was perfect man. And I loved that last segment, where he flew onto teh roof and roared. One word, Amazing..
oh yehhh, i saw it on mayaforum.de weeks ago - leif i think ure one of the best coming up cg Artists in germany all ure stuff is great - u have a great future i think:applause:

I've been a big fan of your work ever since I saw your penguin fishing character. Didn't you have an animation of the penguin and the bear??
Top shelf work. Keep your 3d pimp hand strong.

absolute excellent work.....it definately had me captured. I wanna see more!! hehe
Hi everybody,
first of all thank you for everything,
I just want to mention that a lot of work does also come from Alexander Hupperich [Hugh P. Rich], who did a lot to the background and also finished one of the dragons.
@phishmann
yes I think alex was a little inspired by a matte painting from dousso.
Hope to get that making of done...
I would have loved to get it a little longer and do some more scenes, but we just started our next project...
gotta keep on moving...

Hi,
Quick question the German Film school?
Do they have a website and do they instruct in German or English?
Currently looking for one.

First off, this is really incredible work. I am very impressed. There are a lot of great elements that make this short interesting. I like the fire and background, and the modeling and texturing looks extremely well. Since no one has ever witnessed dragons in battle, there is a lot you can get away with.
As with the ariel battle, the dragons almost seem like they are floating at times, yet there is a considerable amount of movement in the spine of each dragon. The lower half of the dragons look to move in almost every direction, while the upper half stays somewhat still(almost like reverse steering). The tail movements look great, but seem to move the lower legs and hips almost too much.
Also, it seems like the dragons don't glide enough in their downward movements, the only reference I have is birds in flight. When a bird dives, there is no movement from the legs or tail until the last moment when they pull up from the dive. I think just a little more of that type of gliding would make it even more believable.
Overall, I think you have done some INCREDIBLY good work though. Very very commendable.

hi,
@advanced
i think you are absolutly right, wow great eye,
i think one of the problems, described my result out of having the root between the shoulders. this may result in a more still animation on that part. i think next time i would put it in the middle of the character. what do you think?
i think you are also right on the tail, a little bit too much motion.
the thing with the birds dive, is also a good point.
its always the same thing, you can`t spend enough time on everything. i would have loved to perfect a lot of stuff...
thanks a lot for your crit and taking the time

brilliant... the only thing i don't like is the fact that the dragon hits the bridge and falls. i wish it was a more decisive victory for one of them.

I am trying to think of the muscular structure of a dragon...i would imagine there is a ribcage, spine and similar midsection of a human with larger dorsal muscles for wing attachments, etc....
I think that putting the root lower than the shoulders...more near the pelvis would have probably been better, but hindsight is always 20/20. However, since dragons are fictitious, no one knows for sure how they would actually move.

Don't we wish we ALL had more time :p
Thanks for being very open about the crit...the best part of critiquing is being able to help people improve their work. I am still finishing something that I will be posting here shortly...should be done around the end of the month or middle of next month. So keep an eye out
