View Full Version : Female head, Part part 3 [WIP] 3x16kb & 125kb avi fly
TheDevil[DK] 02-10-2002, 10:48 PM Hi this is my first time here at CG Talk, looking for some good critic :)
here us a female head I've created, and some critic will be good before I continue with the ear :)

two things I've notes is the farthest out eye curve doesn't look good, and there is a little (charge) on the underside of the jaw.
and the flyaround:

hi devil
ok first of some really hard critic - the face looks ugly. (if you wanted to create an ugly women - take this as a compliment =)
no offense, really, let me try to be some more constructive.
the face has very rough details in my oppinion, it looks somewhat "overexpressed". i think it should be much more smooth, especially in the area which connects the mouth with the cheekbones. there is mostly a small (but very smooth) contrast between the nose-mouth-cheekbone area which softens out over the whole lower / side part of the face. your model has this part, but its really somewhat too intense. generally i think that female faces are smoother than man faces. you were probably working on this for a long time. i experienced that i have to take a break between modelling faces. i once modelled a womens face and thought it would look pretty, but everyone else said it looks manly. i dropped the face for a while and worked on something else, to come back to that face later. and guess what - it looked ugly and manly. at this time you see for yourself what's not right with it. its a great start, but give it some time and come back to it later. i dont have much experience with anatomy though, and you might wish to skip my opinion on this. after all thats just what i think =)

I agree about the smoothnes... but it depens on what kind of expression the face must have. In my case it's just a normal/thinking/neutral face (no smile/ ore little smile..)
you proberly thinking that making a smooth and round cheek will help it out, but this doesn't exist in real world !!!
Try check-out some picts, and look at people ;)
Uhh...and some very nice landscapez you have created in u'r galery

What application are you using and what technique? because it looks like you have a hell of alot more polygons than you really need wich makes tweaking more difficult

hehe...using 3dsmax box-modelling poly (meshtools & cspolytools)
the wireframe is a meshsmooth with 2x meshsmooth...ore sayd in another way, it is the smooth version of the wireframe :D
you proberly thinking that making a smooth and round cheek will help it out, but this doesn't exist in real world !!!
and i didn't say it does exist a perfectly rounded cheek. all i was saying is that the one you modelled is too crisp and too intense. i wouldn`t be saying that if i wouldn't have had a look at people before. if you don't think so, fine with me. it was just some requested criticism. :)

yeah, your definatly making progression here, I cant put my finger on it but something makes her look kinda evil, it might be something with the eyes.. not sure..

I'd pull the jaw and mouth area back!
Maybe try to find some photos of the female head in a front and side view, that might help you get the basic shape right! Don't worry about the details until the anatomy of the basic shape is nailed down!
Ps. Nice to see some danish modelers on this board! ;)

i started out with a single background image as reference, but now it turned more freeform...
I choice'd only to use asingle background to make it more challenging :o
This forum is very great because some very good artist is hanging out here...we doesn't se new nice picture everyday on the danish forum [ www.3dmaxer.dk ]. I've also used maxforums.org for some time...
So I'll try something new, and this board is fine :)
