So I have been using Lightwave for years, but am now taking a class that introduces me to Maya. So I have a good deal of experience in 3d animation, but am still bumbling around aimlessley cause i'm still quite new to the interface. So I have some questions about maya:
1.) When in component mode, I find that I often select points/faces behind the object. When I halo/cordon select a group of points or faces in the perspective view it selects every point whether its behind some faces or not. I don't want it to do that, is their any way to change that. For example, if I'm editing a head, And I only want to select the points on his cheek, I don't want it to select the points on the back of his head (or in side view, any of the other mass amounts of points behind the cheek).
2.) I know this is simple, but how do I change the scale of some of the built in maya procedural surfaces. For example the cloth surface. I can't seem to get the pattern to become smaller on the surface.
3.) Is their a way to convery a polygon shape into Nurbs surface (much like Lightwaves MetaNurbs)

Thanks for your time,
-Captain

-In answer to question one: Check out the paint selection tool (Edit>Paint Selection Tool) You can basically select whatever using a brush and it will only select whats faceing the camera.
-Question two: You can alter the number of times Maya repeats a pattern. Go the Place Texture tab in you material's attribute editor and look for Repeat UV. You can then just increase the number of repititions.
-Question three: There is no easy way to convert Polys to NURBS (at least none that I've found)
Good luck
