Hey gang,

I need to model a violin and I was wondering, if you have any suggestions on how to tacke the neck (the twisty part). I have an idea but would like to hear yours as well.

Here is the pic.

spline modeling. you just start with a helix. It should work fine.
And look out...that piece of wood is not really finished. But is the best pic to show the detail of the neck.

For what it's worth, Blur created a plugin called l-systems that creates a primitive that looks something like that coil shape. It might be a place to start... You can find the plugin at maxplugins.de. Just search for "l-system".

Thanks for suggestions. I already made the violin and it turned out pretty good. Plus, it went really fast and smooth.

Will post a render when I am done with a whole scene.
