View Full Version : Looking for LOVE ?... it's in the air !(Music video)

Bonjour everyone !

Finally, it is finished !
This is a music video of "love is in the air", all CG and rendered in Maya.

I started this project in Gnomon School nearly 2 years ago, but because of all the classes (I was certificate student) i couln't spend to much time on it.
In the beggining I wanted to render everything in an anti-aliased playblast, but I had to "render" everything because of transparency alpha limitations ( in Maya viewport )

This movie is not about the technical aspect of things, I know that some animators for example may find this video outrageous (technically...) but this was not my goal. (These kilometers of splines could use a LOT of "cleaning"...)

It is not also a "modeling" or "rendering" marvel either, everything is kept "simple".
The ratio of time/emotions is not worth spending (more time) at this point.
I just want to bring emotions to people.

The movie file is 1mn54, and come in two flavors :
640*480 (29 Mo) (http://jansem.org/olivier/Liita/LIITA_mp4HQhX.mov)
320*240 (13.5Mo) (http://jansem.org/olivier/Liita/LIITA_320HQhX.mov)
(Quicktime Mpeg4)
It is hosted on my website, so i apologise if the download is slow (it shouldn't be...)

Please care also about the sound volume, i don't want you to jump out of your chair ( it is not an horror music video... )

I hope you enjoy this.

Olivier

Fricking Genius Man!!

You've come a long way on the textures and the lighting. Very Cool! Some sections seem to dark for me as I kind of like the very bright technicolor look it had before, but you have really fleshed the world out. The trees look very cool! Congrats on a job well done!

Will see you friday.

Yo, it was just great, sometimes great idea or something funny can impress more than cool graphics. Great job!

Like it very much! The only little thing is too fast animation at the beginning, some times you aren't able to distinguish what's happening.

Brilliant! that was so funny,

i loved the growing intensity of the comedy, it just got funnier and funnier till the end, and the cinematography suited perfectly.

Well the next one is already key posed, cut and everything...
I have to animate it and make everything else.
But right now i have to move all my stuff from LA... to Paris... so it may take a little time ( but not to much )
I have to "brush" up my skill on z-brush two too ;)

The next one is a different mood... it is shorter. and the song is from E.Clapton
"change the world"

And guys thank you for your comments i really apreciate, I worked so hard to make you guys laugh, and i am missing the best part... ( your laughters )
But well...
If you laugh, even just once, then my "work" is done, and i am the happiest man on earth !

But for sure i love doing these short animations and I will keep doing them.
I get so much ideas... i wish i could express them much much faster... but i ll find a way :)

Merci !

Man, I so love this style of motion u made, even if it doesn't go with the normal ISO of timing they teach you in school ;) Well, I mean that specially beacuse it's not usual to make such proportions of slow and fast in times and animation, it made that movie really interesting and funny! You've just built a new (well maybe not new... anima) and special animation-language (or style in other words)!!

congratulations, really neat, and f%*k with those perfect boring regular effects films...

Hello everyone
I have made a new thread
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=211313

It covers some of the main technical aspect of this animation.
You have to know maya to know what the hell what i am talking about ;)

So you can ask you technical questions in there !
Ask anything !
Let me share my experience !

Olivier,

I think it's awesome and features a truly unique style. Keep cultivating the feel that you've got in this animation, because it works on so many levels... Like Meats, I've had this song stuck in my head on and off for days.

best,

Absolutley great. But when I saw the movements and the humor I thought immediately of "Johnny Bravo".

really well done

it has what other shorts, which may be technically a lot better, do not have

a really cool concept and a simple and appealing story
and thats what makes a good short a good short

you did focus on the really important part
thats the thing most people do wrong

well maybe i am just plain wrong
but thats what i think

and yours is really funny aswell

thats one of the few shorts i forwarded to my friends

Man you´re a genius!!

Thanks for working hard to make this funny animation. I enjoyed very much, and don´t matter about the graphics quality. If your goal was to make a funny videoclip, then you succes for sure!

Congratulations from Spain and keep working so good!

the important things are done well, the things which aren't the best quality are not that important. if this was re done by pixar it really wouldnt have much more impact. great work.
