View Full Version : my ideal layout- Is it possible?
riyazgomes 02-11-2005, 09:31 AM Hi...Untill recently I was not much of a fan of XSI's Interface....I just downloaded 4.2 and checked out the Alienbrain Autotree layout and realised that my experience with XSI could be gr8 if only I could customize it the way i wanted....however..unfortunately I dont have much html or coding experience to create the autohide toolbars like i want..:(
Anyway....here's the ideal layout that im looking at the Alienbrain autotree layout (standard layout + right side autopopup explorer) on the left side autopopup I would like to have the object viewer popping up...I dont know if its possible but im hoping it is....:D
Could anyone help me on this...would be appreciated

I just tried the auto hide standard menu layout and it is very cool. I didn't even know about that, thanks!

Here's what I found in the help files
Some features of layouts and relational views cannot be set using the layout or relational view editor. However, you can set these features by editing the .xsivw or .xsily files in a text editor or XML editor.
Some features you can set in this way are:
Creating auto-hide panels, as in the Auto-Hide layout.
Synchronizing and aligning the current frame among timeline, fcurve editor, dopesheet, and animation mixer panes.
Creating relationships between panes in layouts.
If im not mistaken Im gonna have to code in it.....:(.....If thats not happening then I would like to delete the left autopane...but when im deleting the views ---> alienbrain tree.xsivw
my palette buttons disappear when I move my mouse fast towards them....weird

That's a pretty cool layout. Nice work! :thumbsup:
I've named the layout after you, so here it is for everyone to download and try out riyazgomes Autotree Layout (http://www.royer-net.de/cgtalk/riyazgomes_Autotree_Layout.zip)
Just extract the file and put it into your Softimage preferences folder, "preferences\%username%\Softimage\%XSI Version%\Application\layouts"
Again, very cool layout :applause:

I think this setup still needs some tweaking. The left panel is only activated around the Model and Get Headline, is this intended? The Select panel on the right side is missing, and the buttons to the right side are a little bit cropped, as you can see in the screenshot I've included.

I am not having the same problems neostar is but I don't see the autohide property editor. The Explorer pops open on the right and Object view pops open on the left and that's it. What am I missing?
Thanks.
Adam.

Have you download the configs from my post or from riyazgomes? If you want the property editor you need to download the config from riyazgomes last post.

I downloaded both. I went back again and downloaded the second one and I did in fact have the same problems as you. The property panel was there all right but the right side of the screen was missing the selection panel.
I managed to get the selection panel back but I had to remove the layer control (and that's already with the timeline removed (doesn't fit on my 1280x1024 layout without covering up the "Freeze M" and "Immed" buttons on the bottom right of my screen. Time to get a bigger than 19" monitor or try 1600x1024 on my current monitor (LaCie electron19blue) and hope my eyes don't bleed.
As for the left autohide panel only opening when you put your mouse at the top/left of the screen that was easily fixed. Open your layout in notepad or another text editor and search for:
<section side="left" activation="0,0,7%">
Change it to read:
<section side="left" activation="0,0,100%">
Works like a charm now.

The layout is actually optimized for a 1024*768 viewport.......the main aspects of the layout are the autohide toolbars.....lessening the activation area was intentional on my part....didnt like it opening by mistake all the time.....I also removed the selection tab...but that could be easily put back using the edit layout option within xsi.
for anyone who wants to edit this layout...just open up the layout file in a html or text editor and make your changes

Thanks riyazgomes,
I like your autohide setup. I had changed the activation area to 100% for both sides but may just change them again to a lower value.
I may end up going a different route altogether though as I just added a second monitor (I now have a 19" at 1280x1024 and a 17" at 1024x768). I forgot I even had the 17". So, my next challange is to find the best way to use both with XSI so I can put some views/toolbars on the 17".
Adam.
