I want to give objects a very glossy effect like the images in this thread:

especially this one (lips):

How can I make parts of an object very glossy and the neighbouring parts dull?
Is it all a matter of specularity maps or reflection maps?
Can this only be achieved with hdri?
Can this be done with a single DGS shader?

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction on how to achieve this effect.
Thank you.

Yes it would just be through painting maps for specular colour and perhaps other attributes. I don't think they used actual 'glossy reflections' on the lips. They might have used a layered shader too. I guess the best way is to find the artist and ask them personally!

Judging from the second image I'd have to say it's definitely using reflection for the lips, a fake specular wouldn't ever look like that, plus you can see that it was an hdri map used almost for certain. Nice looking renders.
