slow, maybe, but suck, definitely not. Keep at it.
Hey all,
I've pretty much worked on this the whole weekend and have never cursed so much. It's my first ever character and the lerning curve is damn insane. I still need to get a grip of vertex weights and line creases but i'm starting to see the light.
What i'm strugling with though is the details such as creases and muscle defenition, any one have any tips? I'm using MAX 4.
I suppose i entered the challenge to learn and i am really doing so, at a cost of my hair turning white.
I also found out that mesh tools only work in poly and not actually mesh, go figure.
Before i post, just some more info on the model. It's a human with a futuristic suit for his sport, i ran through a tut for character modelling so if i've carried across some detail it was not intentional, the two half need to be stiched toghether.

Hi again,
I was just wondering.
Where do i go from here? Do i rig the character then texture then do the environment or what order is the best way? The environment is not very tech more natural.
The other thing is i've never rigged a char before so i'm going to have to learn that too.
I have char studio, should i use that to alleviate my pain for this type of character or should i learn bones?
thanx.

I'd texture first and generally get everything right and finished before rigging, just in case you find something you need to alter.
C. Studio will avoid the need to do all the IK, limits, etc, etc.
But there's plenty of time left and it's good to learn how to do it from scratch.

Hi,
Thanx for the advice guys i really appreciate the help and support here, it's fantastic.
I'll start the texturing then, thanx Clanger.
Hi guys,
Just a quick one, i'm thinking in advance for the environment here and was hoping if anyone could point me in the right direction as to create a desert dune scene with some blowing sand.
I have an idea but was hoping i could get some pointers, thanx.

Ahhh... good old sand. Easy to make, a lifetime to master...
Or something.:D
There's relatively easy ways to make sand dunes. There's probably hundreds of ways!
Have you ever used displacement maps? Thats the quickest way to the shape of the dunes you want. I can write a quick tute for you if you wish.
Hey erilaz
Yeah i thought of the displacement but i think i'm more concerned with the look of the sand rather than the actuall shape.
You know when you look at a desert scene there is usually snad blowing of the crest of a dune, i'd like to get that effect. If you could do a quick tut for that it would be outstanding.
thanx

Cool, thank you for that tut. Pitty it's LW but i'm sure it will put me in the right direction.
By the way, i do suck, but thanx for the encouragement.

Hey all,
I was hoping that i would have been able to complete a project at work in time but it got more complicated so i'll have to pull out of this challenge. :thumbsdow
thanx for all the tips and help though.
