Hi folks,

Im in need of a program or preferably plugin that can neatly pack UV's. The UV's created by Atlas are sometimes very inefficient, leaving large gaps where polygons could make good use of the texture space. Since the objects I deal with are complex, I'd rather not do this by hand.

Does anyone know:
- A trick how to do this (maybe with the new 8.2 commands?)
- A plugin which can do this
- A decent program that will do this. Ive tried Uv Mapper Pro and Depp UV, they both do not satisfy.

From what I gather your creating tileable(sp) textures? If you are not this will not help.

Realize the the square UV space is not limited to the box you see in the UV view. You can move the ploy's outside of the square and make room for more ploys.

Say you have four different tileable(sp) textures. As you create the maps using atlas or any of the other projections, select all of the ploy's and move them out of the grid window in the UV view. With LW 8.2 this is very easy just select them and Move (t) them. With earlier versions you need to Unweld them (Ctrl u) before you Move them then reweld all you points back together, use Merge Points (m). In the surface editor use the same UV map for each surface and change the image to show the different textures.

If you have been making UV's for a while you will understand what I mean. If you need I can give a more detailed (step by step) instruction of the process.
