this is my first WIP post, i made this strut cycle for my demo reel. The loop of the cycle is noticable though, i tied flatening the begening and end tangents it helped but still not the best, if anyone knows how to fix that let me know. I'm working in Maya. Anyother Crit on the animation its self would be appreciated.

hey man,

this walk cycle of urs is cool, nice style and great character model. The walk is pretty unique for your character.

I strongly feel the animation needs more work. you should start experimenting with the "dope sheet" to "offset" keyframes. you should also ease in and out of your poses, especially with the arms. get ahold of the animators survival kit by richard williams and start reading.

Offset keys!
Twist the shoulders, hips, and head!
Offset keys!
Keep the knees from popping!
Offset keys!
Stop him from falling over backwards!

I'm not a big fan of the whole 2 pose walk cycle. Add some more poses for the torso. His feet should be closer together. He shouldn't slouch backwards so much--it looks like he should be falling over. Work on changing timing between poses, and play with ease-in and ease-out.

Have a look at some of Preston Blairs stuff on walk cycles- I think this would be useful especially as you're going for an upbeat strut.

hey thanks guys, yea i have the animator's survival kit, i understand the theory benhind it all but i dont understand the graph editor that much, its confusing me to know end even though i know what it does. for the time being i'm just goin to start the walk again on my girl character that i made and i'll see how it goes from there. i'll post that one up aswell once i have something going.
