I guess you are taking the organic modelling or hard surface modelling class judging from the reference material you asked for :)

I go to AAC as well, Ive been there for years now.
Trying to get the heck out, I took the ADV. Modeling class
during summer, and now Im in MEL scripting.

The MEL class is starting out pretty well, Dan Brick is teaching, so it should be good. I recommend it to any Maya student, it's a must to get as much as you can out of that program.
My final Mel script is going to be something inspired from this thread.
